“This is a good restaurant for BBQ and more.”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Stopped in Fuel for an early supper. Atmosphere is nice. Old town style brick building with high ceilings and old wood floors. As much a bar as restaurant. It's not a white linen place, nor should it be. Wait staff was prompt and friendly. Beer selection was a nice mix of craft, domestic and imports. Wine selection was also notable with a nice selection.

I tried the BBQ which was very good. The brisket and pulled chicken will not disappoint. My better half had the nightly special which was a surprising smoked scallops with vegetable and horseradish mashed potatoes. The scallops were done perfectly and this interesting dish was as good as you will find in the area. The service was solid throughout the meal. I dropped my napkin and the waitress had a new one at the table before I even had a chance to ask. Very attentive but subtle. It was good for a 25% tip. The service was that good.

All in all a nice place that will be in Port Huron for the long haul. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant or to go there again. We will be going back for sure. I am rating this restaurant very good as I think an excellent review is for an over the top restaurant. Fuel is pushing that edge as it delivered a very solid dining experience. Well worth taking the time to visit.

“Ok if you really need a BBQ fix.”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Stopped into Fuel Woodfire Grill for dinner. I was alone so sat at a two top in the bar with a nice window view of the street. The bar area was a nice rehab of an old building, tin ceiling and brick walls. Tracy was working the bar and was super friendly and gave great service.

Nice selection of Craft Beer, the menu was decent size with a good selection. Being hungry and wanting to try a variety of items I ordered a cup of Chili, and the 3 meat dinner (Sliced Brisket, pulled pork and a 1/4 slab of ribs it came with the sides of Jalapeno Mac and Cheese and Corn Bread.

The Chili came out first and was well above average, spicy but not over the top and a great depth of flavor. I will come back in the winter to have a bowl for lunch.

The meal came out and was a nice presentation my thoughts on the five items.

Jalapeno Mac and Cheese; YUM, it was the best thing on the plate.

Corn Bread; MEH, it was dense and not very moist

Pulled Pork: Average, not really much flavor unless dipped in the little wee thing of sauce they give you.

Ribs; Fair, again no real deep smoke flavor but super tender and the bones pulled right out clean as a whistle. The sauce was thick and sticky which is not all bad but I think I would have rather sauced them myself at the table.

Sliced Brisket, YAWN, the slices were dry and pale they had a decent smoke ring but no real smoke flavor. You definitely weren't going to do the brisket pull test and come out with positive results.

All in all if you are in PH and craving BBQ this may do it for you, definitely not award winning BBQ, and very limited sauces only 3.

“Great BBQ - upscale vibe”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

Great food and the atmosphere is charming. The restaurant is located in an older building in downtown Port Huron with exposed brick walls. All of a sudden, there are some wonderful and unique places to dine in the downtown area. Fuel is one of them! The fish dip is great and so are the ribs. You will be pleased.

“Wise choice”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

Arriving in Port Huron late in the evening on our way to the Stratford (Ontario) Shakespeare Festival, both tired and hungry, my wife and I turned to Tripadvisor reviews and chose Fuel Woodfire Grill. Both the significant majority of previous reviews and our own personal experience were positive. Our server, Diana, was both professional and friendly. The house cabernet was tasty and reasonably priced. The side salad was delicious and generous. My wife spontaneously announced that her fish and chips was the best she had had in recent memory. My grilled salmon was also delicious and the accompanying mashed potatoes were surprisingly tasty. All in all, a very pleasant experience
