We always get a pass for this park. Great dunes and swimming with very little rocks. Our last day we knew there would be small waves due to a cold front heading in, so we loaded up for wave jumping fun. Bathrooms are available as well as pavilion picnic
area, but no showers ( we have been told that there are before ).

I loved this beach. The sand is like flour and the water is sparkling cold as you would expect. Only complaint was the upkeep of the parking areas. Weeds growing everywhere and up to the side mirrors of our car. Be prepared to walk uphill thru the really thick soft sand when going back to your car.

The walking/biking loops around the Park and the access paths to the beach were all nicely maintained. The area offered a good day-trip spot to walk around on some nice nature trails and then venture to the beach. The beach was well-kept and clean and had plenty of good swimming. The Park is not particularly notable otherwise, but works very well for a local day-trip.

I took my grandson camping at Sleeper State Park about a mile South of Port Crescent during the first weekend in June. We had my Labradoodle dog with us, so we hiked in to the beach just up the road from the day use park near the Port Crescent Campground. The trail head is just before the Buccaneer Restaurant on the left. There is an old bridge that you have to cross right away. Hike about 1.4 mile in to the beach, and you can see the campground from the beach there. We hiked down the beach a bit, and the devastation from the storms was pretty dramatic. The beach at that point was littered with logs and driftwood, and there were sand bars that were not safe to walk on. I sunk one leg to my thigh in soft sand when I stepped onto one of them. The water was lovely and clear with a bit of algea or seaweed. We did also park at the front of the Port Crescent Day use park and hike in. There were several other people doing the same thing. The road was washed out, but they had all of the heavy equipment on-site and had already graded and laid sand for the new road. The beach there was clean and beautiful. The bath house was closed, and the outdoor foot bath was turned off. It looks as if they haven't been keeping things up very well there. The dunes are encroaching onto the boardwalk along the beach.

Locals tell me the road (inside state park) that drives you back to day use beach parking area has washed out and DNR is NOT repairing it for this season --- which would make use of the day use beach prohibitive this summer

I would recommend calling to check on this before planning a trip there.

This would NOT affect the overnight camping beach that is a couple miles away from this.
