A bit thank you to the staff at St. John’s Inn for making our trip so enjoyable! Colin at the front desk was very welcoming, advising us of the most delicious menu items and offering us complimentary brunch tickets. John in the bar was equal parts warm and efficient, taking care of us while making us feel relaxed. Cassie and Barbara took us on a spontaneous tour of the hotel, which is rich in architecture and history. Rob anticipated our every need during meals, entertaining us as well. The Inn was spotlessly maintained, from the rooms to the pool to the lounge. We will definitely be back!

We stayed here in February 2019. The staff was attentive and accommodating - very attentive and welcoming. The front desk clerk Colin was especially welcoming and professional!

The hotel is immaculate - beautiful, well-designed and well-maintained.

I travel extensively, and this is one of the best hotels I have visited.

The FIVE restaurant is a superb steak house, with an impressive wine list. The wine list is also not overpriced, which made me happy - far too many fine dining restaurants charge outrageous prices for wine.

We recommend this hotel 100% - for a romantic weekend, a quick getaway - or during the season - for a golfing vacation.

Room tip: The suites are awesome. The 1st floor rooms are surprisingly quiet.

Dear Dave K.

We also recommend this review 100%!!! To say it made our day is an understatement. Thank you so much for your kind words. Quite frankly, it ALMOST leaves me speechless... And the staff will tell you that's nearly impossible.

However, I think I can find the words to tell Colin (for the hundredth time) thank you for a job well done! (He is getting such a big head! Lol) He does a wonderful job for our guests and us and I know he, too, will appreciate you lovely thoughts.

I will also pass along your comments to a very grateful team.

We look forward to your next visit... And, perhaps, review!

Warmest regards,

We've have stayed hear before, love this place, awesome renovated rooms, with very attentive staff. Check in with you regularly to insure all is okay and you don't need anything. Meeting rooms well ventilated, well staffed and very accommodating.

Meals awesome, variety, quality of food, politeness of staff and attention to detail. Front desk willing to help on everything. Would rate this a unknown jewel of a place for meetings, family gatherings, or just tourist stop. Great golf course and wonderful chapel for weddings. Lots of character and history in this facility and easily accessed.

Room tip: Stayed in this hotel before, rooms quiet on various floors

This might be a great destination for a business traveler whose company is paying for everything, but it is a big trap for the private citizen with kids. For a $150 a night hotel, it has few amenities. No free breakfast option; the only options are room service (expensive), or the stupidly named '5ive' steakhouse that's insanely expensive and also has no kid's menu. There's no way that breakfast for 2 adults and a 2 year old should be $60, but that's what it ended up being. There is a "reasonable" option on-site, which is a burger joint. By the way, though, it's closed in the winter-time. Seeking off-site places to eat, there really aren't that many. No Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel, its all cafe types. The steakhouse is the only game in town.

The only thing that I can really say positive is that the beds were really nice and I got a good nights' sleep. The showerhead was really nice. The rest of the furnishings were somewhat worn and underwhelming. There was a TV in the room that got some channels, but the on-demand services were expensive. There is also a microwave and a (tiny) refrigerator in the room.

Overall, I've had better stays at a Holiday Inn, Residence Inn, or Comfort Suites than this money pit.

Dear Paul W.,

Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts about your recent stay at The Inn at St. John's. You certainly gave us a lot to consider and we are very sorry that we were "not your cup of tea" (so to speak).

We do invite those reading this review to read through the myriad of fine reviews on this and other social media sites to get a complete understanding of how special this AAA Four Diamond Hotel, Conference Center and Golf Course truly is. We completed a $1.4m room renovation recently and feedback from guests has been overwhelmingly positive. We are sorry you did not find the décor to your liking but pleased to read that you had a "good night's sleep".

Our 5ive Steakhouse, named after our location on 5 Mile Road, is also getting outstanding reviews. It is more expensive than Cracker Barrel and Bob Evans as you stated. However, there are about 25-30 restaurants located within a 10 mile radius of the hotel. Much to our chagrin (written "tongue firmly in cheek"), we are far from "the only game in town"!

We want to point out that there are also a number of very nice Holiday Inns, Residence Inns and Comfort Suites to choose from in the Metro Detroit area. If that is what you are looking for it is nice to have that choice!

We wish you all the best in your future travels!

Kindest regards,
Jim Fowler

I had one of the best steaks of my life. They have a very nice selection of wines. Our server was very professional and informative. My buddy had Venison Chops and said they were great. My wife loved her sea bass. I would go here again.
