“It would be better to sleep in your car then at this hotel”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

This hotel needs a complete overhaul.
Our mistake was this is a pet friendly property.
Our room had a non-smoke room sign. However, the hallway reaked of old smoke.
The room smell was a mixture of old smoke and animal pee.
We were traveling with friends and their room smell exactly the same.
The walls in the bathroom looked as though a dog had lifted its leg on the wall.
We tipped toed around with our shoes on and hardly slept for the horrible smell.
I actually considered sleeping in the car. If we could of cancelled and got our money back we would of.
The only staff we saw was one girl at the front desk who was nice enough.
There really isn't anything positive to say about this hotel.

We stayed here on July 29, 2011. I would give this hotel a 2 star. The room reeked of old stale smoke. It's a bed to sleep in & it's comfortable (if you can get past the smell), and the complimentary breakfast is decent. The wallpaper is buckled, the bathroom door handle was old & rusty, the tub/shower has a lot of cracks. The room furnishings are old & the couch looked filthy & worn.
This hotel is in desperate need of updating.
The staff was friendly.

One of the friendliest staffs we've ever met! Everyone was pleasant and so anxious to make sure we were satisfied. The building is beginning to show some wear, but was clean. The breakfast was one of the best we've had at a Comfort Inn. We will definitely return! Quiet and on the edge of town, away from the crowds.

We took a three-day vacation in the Petoskey/Charlevoix area while our carpets were getting cleaned (any excuse to go up north!)...we found the Comfort Inn on the Internet and it seemed like a good value, so we spent a night there.

Pros: We found our room to be small but clean and completely adequate for what was basically a short sleepover between travels. The hotel had a nice lobby that would be great for just sitting down with coffee and a newspaper...the breakfast area was also very pleasant and clean, with a decent assortment of food. We also found the housekeeping staff to be very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel, back from the highway, made it a very quiet place to stay, and also good for walking our dogs.. The hotel is also fairly close to historic downtown Petoskey, Bay View and businesses convenient for travelers (a Glen's Market with a Starbucks inside...yay! The Bob-In Again, a retro burger/ shake/ice cream joint with great food in a fun atmosphere; other worthwhile stops).

Cons: The desk staff, at check-in and the next morning, were less than friendly and customer-oriented and seemed to be irritated that there were actual lodgers interrupting their day by checking in/out, asking questions, etc. When we, having gotten to our next stop about 15 miles away, realized that we'd left something behind in our room, the staffperson answering the phone didn't seem interested in helping us retrieve the item, forcing us to come back the next day, when a new desk person was far more friendly and helpful -- and also told us that staff had actually found the item the morning before, but that whomever we'd called to ask about it later in the day apparently hadn't bothered to look everywhere in their lost-and-found area to locate it for us. That was annoying.

Things couldn't have been better. The room was immaculate and the size of the room was very adequate for us.
Check-in was seamless and efficient.
Friendly, attentive staff. Housekeeping was on top of their game and the room was cleaned promptly and thoroughly.
The breakfast buffet was well stocked and the dining are was clean.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and definitely will be returning sometime in July or August.

Room Tip: Use the online service.

The Check-in staff at the desk were friendly, professional, & helpful. One person in our party of six doesn't do stairs very well. The Staff fixed them up with a 1st. floor room and with handicap parking just outside the building. Our other two rooms were close by. The rooms were very clean and neat. Everything in the room worked like expected NO surprises's. The Continental Breakfeast was very good it had alot to choose from. There were danish, cold cereal, oat meal, fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea, Biscuits & Gravey,Hard -boiled eggs, yogurt, waffles, pancakes, muffins, etc. If you couldn't find anything you like it's yourown fault.

This hotel was nice and clean. The location was good, just off the main road but with easy access. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean. The breakfast room was clean and nicely stocked. Our only "complaint" would be that the bed was too hard so we didn't sleep well. We would definately stay here again if we are in the area.
