Description: City Park Grill, one of Petoskey’s oldest buildings, was originally constructed in 1875. McCarty Hall, as it was then known was a malesonly billiard parlor that offered cigars and “intoxicating beverages.” Today, City Park Grill maintains a loyal clientele with house-made cuisine, focusing on locally procured produce, meats and lake fish, an awardwinning wine collection and house-made biscuits straight from the oven

“Historic ambience with good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2014

I have dined at the City Park Grill several times over the years while traveling in the area. I always return as I enjoy the historic atmosphere. The bar area is steeped in history; Hemingway frequently attended when it was "The Annex". Although the bar is beautiful, it lacks an assortment of draught beer (no ipa or pale ale?).
I had the Seafood Chowder as an appetizer. This is a medium bodied herby New England style chowder with small shrimp, clams and bay scallops (average). For my entree I had the apple wood grilled ribeye with truffle mashed potatoes and vegetable mix. The ribeye was tender and perfectly cooked and the truffle potatoes and veggies were very good as well.

“Nice dinner at historic location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2014

Excellent dinner at a historic Petoskey building. Try the Hangin' Frank beer locally produced by Short's Brewing - only available at the City Park Grill - ask the staff about the history behind the name Hangin' Frank.

“Aweful, salty, and overpriced”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2014

Ordered the beer cheese dip - had to send it back. Ordered the fish n chips and did the same. Left the restarant without eating anything. On the plus side, management was great and took the food off of our bill.

“Not bad...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

The City Park Grill was a perfectly nice eatery. It wasn't bad, but I'm kind of stuck rating it "average" because it wasn't that distinguishable from the dozens of other soup & salad & burgers & brew grill/pubs I've been to.

We had their City Park salad, with mixed greens, bleu cheese, and cherries - perfectly good, if not novel. I had the salmon BLT; my wife had the whitefish sandwich. Hers was pretty good; mine was a bit dry; kind of a wash. I had coleslaw on the side, which I really liked; she had fries, which were clearly overcooked and sticklike. Again kind of a wash, although the fries were something of disappointing surprise. Still, the beer was good and the decor was pleasant, so all in all an average place.

“Genteel Gourment”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2014

Dark wood and white tablecloths greeted us in this warm and inviting establishment after coming in from a blustery shopping trip. Delicious entrees and attentive waitstaff. Top notch and we'll definitely return again.
