“Best deal in town!”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Jesperson's was one of the most reasonable places to eat in Petoskey. And, the food was very good. Service was exceptional. Needs better decor, it's pretty basic, but with their prices and the good service and good food, they should be around a long, long time. Their cherry berry pie was delicious! You need to give it a try!

“Nice place for lunch now in its 110th year.”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

We stopped into Jesperon's for lunch yesterday. The plaque on the front indicates that Hemingway was a regular during his time in Petosky, but places that Hemingway frequented in Petosky and Key West are as numerous as places where Washington slept in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. But given the quality of the food it is decidedly reasonable to suspect that Papa ate there. I had the turkey club. It was stacked with fresh turkey, great bacon and nice tomatoes and came on fresh baked whole wheat toast. My wife had the grilled ham and cheese which includes tomato and onions. The only wrinkle in the meal was the fact that the first sandwich my wife was brought was missing the tomato and onions that were supposed to be grilled with the ham and cheese. At first the server tried to get her to accept them on the side, but of course that simply isn't the same taste experience as having them grilled into the sandwich. However, he quickly offered to have a new sandwich made and this was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Because of the size of the club I was barely half way through it and my fries when my wife's replacement arrived. Other than that mistake, and such can happen, the service was enthusiastic if somewhat lacking in attention to detail. The décor is traditional upper lower peninsula Michigan lunch café. The restaurant is right in the middle of downtown which is a pleasant setting. The prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area which is to say slightly high. The fries, for example, do not come with sandwich (potato chips and a thin slice of pickle do) and at $3.95 for a modest amount a tad expensive.

“Best pie”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

We go every summer for pie and the cherry berry is our favorite. We like to call ahead and order a whole pie for family gatherings, or pick up individual slices to take home. The rest of the food is good (especially soups and the whitefish) but sometimes in the summer the wait is out the door and also the place isn't air conditioned. The last used to be normal for Petoskey establishments as is was generally fairly cool most of the summer but now it gets hot here just like anywhere else. So, if you avoid it on not or crowded days, you will have a wonderful lunch!
