“Good but expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

This review is for the store on Lake St. It's a small place with jams, spreads, fruit butters, salsa, bbq sauce in a variety of fruit flavors and sweet and or spicy. They are very nice and helpful, they have samples galore in the middle, and they are all good and fine, it's just paying $10 for bbq sauce or $9 for strawberry jam can be a little hard to rationalize. Salsa's were maybe $12?
Anyway, I did get some mango butter, which is something I've never come across before. But I'll stick to my Smuckers from the grocery store I guess.

“Two meals and gelato”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

Lovely well lit atmosphere, right next to a park with large windows. Awesome gelato. We had a waitress named Katie who had even remembered my coffee order from a previous visit. She was very attentive and polite. Food is great. Smoked Whitefish Benedict highly recommended

“Great dining experience with outstanding food and friendly atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2012

What a find! Having been long time patrons of now closed Tapawingo, we were delighted to discover American Spoon Gelato's chef is Pete Peterson, former owner and chef at Tapawingo. His menu creativity, sense of style and use of local ingredients all combine into a lovely dining experience. We particularly enjoyed pork loin and the lake trout . Portions are appropriately sized; we left satisfied and not overly full. The wine selection was excellent for a restaurant of its size and style. We're so glad Pete is back.
Our only complaint is the noise level. The tile floor, hard ceiling, and lack of any softening fabrics made it challenging for one of our dining companions who has significant hearing loss to converse with those not sitting next to him.

“Delicious vegetarian option”

A little noisy inside, but the food was great. I especially enjoyed my broccoli lemon ravioli. It was delicate and really tasty. Super salad and bread -- gelato for dessert. Perfect.

“Big city meets local lushness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2012

Breakfast at American Spoon Cafe, I believe, is one of the great hidden treasures of the Tip of the Mitt. The smoked whitefish eggs benedict was beyond delicious--the perfect balance of creamy, smoky, and luscious. Housemade English muffins and succulent, locally harvested and smoked fish was the perfect compliment to the Lake Michigan breezes on the patio. Seasonal foods here doesn't just mean sustainable; the skilled, classically trained chef uses local ingredients such as spring ramps and summer heirloom tomatoes to compose excellent cuisine. Local meats, primo produce and--above all--culinary flair directed at optimal, modern flavors make ASC the most affordable fine dining in town. And their redesign added sophistication and richness without losing the family-friendly atmosphere. Great place for a romantic dinner or lunch with your gal pals, too.
