My wife and I ate dinner in the Wine Cellar at Chandler's tonight. I would recommend the Wine Cellar rather than the main dining area since it is quitter. I enjoyed seeing all the different bottles of wine around me that are available for dinner or purchase.
The food was outstanding. Every day there are additions to the menu. For an appetizer, we both ordered the veal sweetbreads. This was a great dish. They were pan fried and served with wilted spinach, wild mushrooms, tart cherries, and a wine sauce. These were the best sweetbreads that I have ever tasted. Sushi items were also available as appetizers including a soft shell crab roll, a tuna roll, and a California roll.
The entrée that both my wife and I ordered were the Venison Medallions served with spatzle, bacon, wild mushrooms, sweet corn, crispy leeks and a piquillo (sweet and tangy) pepper sauce. What a wonderful combination of flavors. For dessert, we shared a Chocolate Brownie with a bing cherry compote and a port reduction sauce-delicious!
What I also enjoyed was the expansive wine selection. The wine prices were incredibly reasonable. We selected a bottle of wine that retails for $40 that we paid $60 for. Service was excellent. This has now become my new favorite restaurant in Northern Michigan!
