This is a nice property. It has the amenities one would normally expect from a big-city hotel -- way beyond the motor lodges that one usually finds in the UP. It has a great view of Whitefish Bay. Unfortunately, construction work on the Soo locks raised the lake level, which destroyed their beach in August 2013. It should eventually recover once the lake returns to its "normal" level, but if you're planning on using the beach, call first and speak with the friendly folks at the front desk before you book. Their wireless internet wasn't at all reliable in my room on the second floor, although I didn't let them know about it (perhaps they would have fixed it if I had said something). Verizon cellular customers will find a solid 4G signal there. Room had a smallish flat screen television; never turned it on; who needs to in such a beautiful place? I'm not a traditional breakfast person, but the free breakfast in the lobby looked great. There was an interesting-looking automatic pancake machine there. The indoor pool was clean and warm -- great for relaxing after an active day (or inactive too, I suppose).

My wife and I stayed here for one night while visiting White Fish Point. It is a relatively small hotel overlooking the lake. The grounds are small but well maintained. The public areas in the hotel and the room were very clean and well maintained.

We would highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting this area.

My partner and I are in our mid to late 70's. I was a bridge designer and have lived in 30 states and traveled through all 49 (never been to Hawaii - never wanted to). I've seen it all and traveling is not high on my to do list. In fact we avoid driving on freeways/Interstates and enjoy country roads. Being retired, we are never in a hurry or on a schedule. However, since my partner (my high school sweetheart from 1954) and I reconnected in 2007 and are cohabiting, we go to Paradise every year and stay at the Magnuson Grand Hotel (previously Best Western). This year we went twice - once in the early spring when the kids are still in school and again in the fall when the kids are back in school. Our agenda every year is as follows: 1st night there, eat dinner at Tahquamenon Falls (upper) brewery. 2nd day drive along West Lakeshore Scenic Drive to Sault Ste. Marie to the locks to watch ships pass through the locks and have a late lunch at Lockview restaurant, then back to Paradise. 3rd day, drive through Newberry to Manistique for some shopping and then drive to Curtis and have an early dinner at the Chamberlin Inn on Manistique lake. Then back to Paradise. 4th day return home in mid-Michigan.

Our stay at the Magnuson is WONDERFUL!!!! Laurie, Tim, Valerie, and Judy are great people. We stay on the 3rd floor on the lakeside. The sun rises, ships going up-bound and down-bound, the seagulls feeding on the lake, the wind generators across the lake in Ontario at day and night make for pleasant time spent in the room. Great time for a cup of coffee or glass of scotch (gotta bring your own) depending on time of day. With my background and travels, the experience here ranks right up there with the best ever. Thanks for being!!

Room Tip: Room 317 is the best. It's on the south end of the building, but any room on the lakeside 3rd fl...

My wife and I visit Michigan's Upper Peninsula at least once a year and have found a hotel that meets all of our needs. The Magnuson Grand Hotel Paradise is an outstanding facility with an equally outstanding staff. From the moment we checked in to that sad time we checked out (we didn't want to leave), we were treated like royalty! Valerie checked us in and answered all our questions.

The room was had a wonderful vista of Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay. The sunrises were indescribable as were the stars at night. A full complimentary breakfast was served daily and the coffee pot in the breakfast area was always on and fresh! The indoor heated pool was clean and sparkling. Unfortunately we didn't pack our suits, so didn't use it. But it looked great.

We had one small issue with our room's heater, which we reported to the front desk. There followed a concentrated effort by the staff to repair the unit until the maintenance man could take a look at it the next day. Another room was offered, but we loved the room we were in, so "roughed it" overnight. The room never got cold! The next day, the maintenance man had the heater repaired before we returned from our explorations of the "North country". A true effort by the hotel staff to please us went above and beyond the call of duty.

I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is visiting the U.P. during any season of the year. Summer or winter, the Magnuson will accommodate your needs.

You have to stay at the Magnuson to appreciate why it is a cut above rest!

We will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a bay view room. The views are spectacular.

We've been staying here for the past few years in spring and in fall, and always look forward to our next visit. The hotel is clean and comfortable, with a cozy lobby, the staff is always courteous and helpful, and the view is spectacular, especially from our lakeside room. We only wish that the hotel would be open for a few more weeks in the spring and the fall--we would come even more often. Tip: pack some snacks, since evening dining options in the area can be scarce outside of the summer months.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a lakefront room. The view is great, and you have your own patio to sit outside. T...

Although I hesitate to write a good review and tell this world about this place....it truly is Paradise and we love it.

This is our second stay here in 2 years and we'll be back ASAP. Views from lake side rooms....PAY THE EXTRA.... are among the best we've ever seen from a hotel. Watch the freighters go by and see Canadian lights from your balcony.

Breakfast is quite good and 24 hour coffee...which is better than the average hotel coffee.

GREAT and friendly staff, good clean rooms.

The ONLY negative is that if you're there on a Tuesday and are hungry, check our the Pizza place which is your ONLY choice without driving 10 or more miles one way.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms can even be upgraded to a suite....a few dollars more but a couch is a better altern...

This is a gem in the middle of nowhere. Nothing else compares for miles around it. It was super clean and well run. I am so glad I found it on the Internet and booked it ahead. We got a lakeside room and it had a great view o Lake Superior. Beautiful sunrise in the morning. It's not a fancy hotel, just a clean nice room to stay for the night. I would definitely stay here again! We ate dinner at the restaurant in the upper falls state park. That was a great place to eat.
