“Wonderful Vacation Setting”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

We have wanted to see the Upper Peninsula before, and this was our first trip there. We found the hotel in an online search and we were so impressed by the facilities. Our room on the 3rd floor was fabulous - comfortable bed, nice couch, TV, etc. But, the best part was the view of Whitefish Bay from the deck. We were thrilled with the changing views of the water, from the beautiful sunrise colors, to the evening twilight, and then to seeing thousands of stars overhead at night. The hotel staff are all very friendly, the pancake machine at breakfast was a lot of fun, too, but the setting of this place is worth the drive. It truly is Paradise!!

Room Tip: 3rd floor rooms look out over the water. We loved being up there, but I think all the rooms would h...

We had reserved a room on the lake. We had a balcony with a fantastic view. We enjoyed hearing the waves lapping at the shore. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The room had a fridge and microwave. Also the room had a sleeper sofa and was clean and spacious. There was a nice pool but we did not have an opportunity to use it. The cost of the room was a little higher than we had been spending but I thought it was a good value.

We meet two other couples here every year for a long weekend. They stay longer but we can only make it for 2 or three nights. We always have a great time! The hotel always feels like we are going back home top a familiar place.

We have a walkout room on the bottom floor and all of us sit having evening cocktails and snacks while watching for freighters going by on Lake Superior. Some are brave enough wade out into the cold water, although it was fairly warm this year. A dip in the pool or some time in the hot tub is always a relaxing time and sometimes we just hang around the couches just off of the check in area.

We like the area because, most of the time, you can walk right down the middle of main street if you want to. There are no crowds, very few tourist traps, but there are a few good restaurants. Nothing fancy but good whitefish and such.

We'll see you there next July!!

Room Tip: We love the bottom floor walk outs but the upper rooms on the lake side have great views from small...

Paradise, MI has very little to offer a vacationer, but this hotel was a good find. It was about a 15 minute drive to the Tahquamenon Falls. The price was quite high, even with a military discount, but since there wasn't much to choose from, we booked it. I would recommend getting a reservation in advance, and even 2 weeks ahead we couldn't get a water view room. My daughter said to rate the hotel as an A+, as she loved the shower and the smell of the shampoo and conditioner provided! The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the room was very clean. The breakfast was good, and the pancake maker was very quick and they tasted great. The staff was also very friendly. We didn't use the pool, so I can't comment on that. There was a small beach access area that we walked down to, and it was pretty but very cold. If I was in the area again, I would stay here.

Room Tip: Make reservations in advance to get a water view.

Very, very clean and very comfortable room. They have a great pool and they even have an adult swim hour (thank you!) - all hotels should do this. Also swam in the lake - nice beach and it had a beautiful sand bottom that was shallow and went for about 1,000 feet out. We never did get over our heads. Breakfast was a little crowded and could use some more tables or a door to the outdoor patio so that that could be used. Folks at the front desk were very pleasant. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the lake:)

High reviews as #1 place in Paradise to stay brought us here. Check in was good -- we were surprised with an upgraded Lake Front room for our anniversary (thank you!). Our room was clean and fairly comfortable - two queen beds. Balcony was little more than a space for 2 plastic chairs and astroturf peeling off but it had a nice view of the water. Beach front was very minimal. Walking down 2 flights of stairs to a simple strip of sand with more plastic chairs scattered. It was maybe 25ft long but 3 ft wide. If it had been a nice sunny day, two families would have made it feel crowded. LOTS of bugs & Flies. LOTS. Stated private beach but neighboring properties had people walking into beach area and in front of hotel to access. Next door to hotel is cabins that weren't of same level of this hotel so it made you feel a bit nervous leaving your car / belongings outside. Close access to the falls but not much else. ALL restaurants in town were closed or appeared closed .... got dinner at the park restaurant (luckily as we didn't know town was closed until we returned). Good for overnights on the way to or from Pictured Rocks / Mackinaw but our opinion is stay in Mackinaw and drive 1hr to the falls. MUCH better option.

First of all, your welcome for the free upgrade to a room with a premium view. We do not normally do this during our peak season but we thought it would help make your anniversary special instead of looking out over the parking lot.

Everyone along the shore of Whitefish Bay have experience much above normal lake levels this summer so that would explain the minimal beach we have. There is still plenty of room down there to sit and swim comfortably for a number of people, it is 100 ft. long.

As far as bugs, look at it this way, would you go to Alaska on vacation and complain about the bugs? It's the same here. Our town is surrounded by hundreds of miles of National forest and bugs do live here too. We can't spray for them so maybe you should avoid vacationing in pristine natural virgin forests if you do not like a few bugs.

Referring to the property next door, it is owned by my parents who live there but have closed it to the public after they built this hotel and opened it in 2000. It's funny that you mentioned staying in Mackinaw and just take a day trip up here because the majority of our guests do the opposite. They use our hotel as a base camp for 2 or 3 days and visit Mackinaw, Pictured Rocks, and the Soo Locks for their day trips from here.

Thank you for taking the time to let me know about your stay. Your feedback is a valuable component in monitoring our success and identifying areas that need improvement.
Meeting your expectations is our primary objective and I apologize that we fell short of that goal.

In July this was definitely a family-oriented hotel. There were a lot of kids running about in the halls and in the pool. The facilities are quite good. My only real complaint was that the breakfast area was too tight and it was difficult to get to the food and a table. There simply was not sufficient space for the number of people. The pool did not appear to be heated, or if so, only minimally. The hot tub and spa counter-balanced the pool. There is a small beach on the lake. The views are fantastic and the staff very friendly.

Room Tip: get a lake view
