“Nice and close to the water”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

If you want to be close to the water and be lulled to sleep listening to the waves, this is the place. About 50 ft from you door to the water's edge. The decor is a little dated, but very clean and it brought back memories of staying in my grandmother's cottage years ago. If you are riding motorcycles great place to stay since there is a cover carport attached to each cottage, great if it's starts to rain. We had the cottage with a small kitchen which had refrigerator and stove, fully equiped with dishes and pots and pans.

Thank you Dwayne and Nikki for providing a wonderful family resort. It's laid back, easy to relax, great places to sit by the water and unwind. We took advantage of the kayak's and got into the unseasonably warm waters of Lake Superior. Our kids, ages 15 and 11 had plenty to do and there is a bike path right out of the front door. The resort is only 10 - 20 minutes from the Shipwreck Museum and Tahquemenon Falls, both were well worth the visit. We can't wait to go back to Paradise!

Freighters View is a fine lodging option for your stay in Paradise if it meets your requirements. But it passes most of the basic tests.

The property occupies a small sliver of land between Whitefish Bay Road and Whitefish Bay. Although located hard against the road, this section gets only local cottager traffic after the Shipwreck Museum (10 miles north on this road) closes at about 6PM. The Bay side is delightful with small private decks, picnic tables and a personal grill. The owners are on premises and make themselves helpful without being intrusive. I had the unit immediately adjacent to their home and engaged them in some conversation. Nice folks having owned the place for about 2 years.

You are located 2 miles north of Paradise which includes a couple restaurants and the intersection with Hwy 123. I felt it was a better option than an equivalent place located in town that was not on the water but was near a lot of traffic noise. And if you plan to stay in town for some time, have kids who like the pool or need something closer to resort amenities, the better option might be the more expensive hotel in town as well.

My room with 2 queens included refrigerator, TV, and couch. The small bathroom w/shower was suitable and well-equipped. During this hot spell, cross ventilation came through the bathroom window and out the louvred windows over the beds. A circulating fan helped but was unnecessary by nightfall. Internet access was excellent. The motel is constructed as a set of duplexes and the wall between you and your neighbor seems pretty thin. I heard nothing from the early-rising scuba divers (exploring the off-shore wrecks) staying next door. I hope they didn't hear me snore!

I really enjoyed hanging out on the dock and listening to the waves lapping and watching the stars come out. My only regret is I did not take heed of the cloud of black flies (it turned out) that ultimately made a feast of me and left me with itchy memories of my time at Freighters View. That was my error, not that of the location. But pay attention if you are there in that season.

Room Tip: If you have the option, specify a quiet neighbor to your duplex unit.

The owner was nice, so was his dog. I'm sorry, but a lack of up keep and no other clients there during a peak of fall season, should have been our first clue. Only about 4 or 5 rooms, dingy and with no lights (security/safety) as we are all (2 couples) seniors mildly handicapped. We were forced to go here as all the other motels in the area could not accomodate us due to no vacancy or 2 familys would not be possible. When asked why the rooms were so expensive for seniors, we were told because of the view. We thought of this elderly gentleman as rude and arragant to the question. We would have to be desparate to ever lodge here in the future.

Room Tip: Nice motel next to the sheriffs dept. Do not know the name of it, but the town is very tiny and you...

We stayed here the last week in September. The view of the bay was great. The leaves were turning brilliant colors. The owner was very helpful and thoughtful. The rooms have a nice layout with a kitchenette and table. Yes, it is like time has stood still with the decor, but it did have a certain charm and the price was right. Close to Whitefish Point Lighthouse and many other fun things to see. Don't forget your binoculars.

My friend and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Freighters View. It was right on the water and extremely clean. We also had our own little pier and enjoyed that very much. The owner was very friendly and even joined us for dinner one evening, at our invitation of course. If I'm ever in Paradise again I would definitely stay there.

We stayed here for the recent Tahquamenon Trail race(spectating, not running), the rooms were clean, but dated, and very adjacent to the road. There is no beach here, a stone seawall goes vertically into 18" of very cold Lake Superior water. It is on par with all other accomadations in this area though, so really not bad. The owner greeted us personally, showed us our units, and was very friendly. The proximity to the lake is excellent, and we were lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves, and the occasional car going by right outside our window.
