“Lake Superior Tour”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

What a beautiful spot right beside the Porcupine Mountains and the sunset is spectacular!! Restaurant only open till 9 right when the sun is setting so eat first :). If you are doing the tour this would be a spot I would make as one of your stops and stay for the night.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room facing the lake the views are spectacular.

We only stayed one night at this hotel, but I wish we could have stayed longer. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. They went above and beyond several times during our stay.

The salt water pool was very clean and a nice surprise. I appreciated that the pool had extra 'adult' hours after the kids had to be out. The hot tub and sauna were also great.

The best part was the view from the hotel room--we had a lakeview window and the view was breathtaking. The hotel also has several benches and chairs set up along the beach for guests. The beach was empty in the morning and was quiet enough for me to do yoga without any interruptions.

I was really impressed. Beautiful hotel in the middle of nowhere. Better than many big city hotels. We stayed twice, one night on each stay. We stayed in the same room both times - a two double bed, lake-view, third floor, which looked over the cosy beach fires and swing sets. We also enjoyed the pool and whirlpool on our second visit. After our first visit, they asked how they could make it better. We gave two suggestions (shower head needed adjustment and a mildly ticking fridge). Sure enough, on our second visit, they had solved both of them. I like that response alot. Nothing special about the breakfast - a normal continental breakfast.

Room Tip: Third floor was quite.

Nice clean hotel right on the shores of Lake Superior! Food in the restaurant at our dinner was good, friendly staff, you can make a bonfire on the beach, average rooms. We enjoyed our stay! Some rooms have a lake view. Would recomment staying here if you are doing the Lake Superior circle tour!

We spent a couple of nights at this hotel and overall really enjoyed it. It is probably the fanciest hotel near the Porcupine Mountains, which is why I gave it four stars. If this hotel was in lower Michigan, I would have given it 3 stars.

Pros: It is on the lakeshore with a couple of fire pits to hang out in the evening and watch spectacular sunsets while making s'mores (they sell marshmallows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers at the front desk). Rooms are clean. A decent restaurant (again, by U.P. standards) and bar are attached. The hospitality of the employees was spectacular.

Cons: While the beach is sandy leading up to the water, the beach under water is very rocky and not very will suited for swimming (they do have a heated pool, spa, and sauna inside though). They allow dogs which can make for loud moments. Also, our room was next to the ice maker and some crazy insane guests made a lot of noise getting ice at 7:30AM in the morning. Guess they were trying to beat the bears in the park??? Restaurant closes AT 9PM sharp! Do not be late or you will be forced to eat at a real dive down the street. Nothing else is in the area. I would recommend taking some food with you just in case the timing doesn't work out for you.

One last thing (a definite plus for me, but my wife was a bit nervous)...there is NO cell phone service in the area. The hotel has WI-FI, but no signal. You will feel adequately off the grid in this place.

Overall....definitely would stay there again. A beautiful area and the kids really liked the fire and the pool.

Room Tip: Don't get a room next to the pool or the ice machine. Very loud.

We almost booked a cabin elsewhere and are so happy we chose to stay here. The location is right outside the Porkies park. Staff was very polite and professional from the front desk to the cleaning staff.
The room was spacious and clean with lots of towels. Bed was comfy. Our room was not a "lake view" room, but we had a full view of the lake. Very nice.
Ice machine was a real workhorse. Lots of ice for everyone and their coolers (very much appreciated). We did not use the washing machine, but it was always in use whenever we went for ice.
Free breakfast was an awesome bonus. We had dinner in the restaurant two nights and both were excellent and reasonably priced. The last night we got a pizza to eat in our room and it was really good.
All around great experience and would return in a heartbeat!

There was a mixup with our online reservation, so instead of a lakeside room we were given a lakeside suite for the same price. Besides the great room and listening to the waves crashing during the night, we really enjoyed the restaurant--really tasty food (you need to try the Black Widow Black Ale!) The continental breakfast was also outstanding. These accomodations made for a really enjoyable getaway in the Porcupines.
