This garden is a pure gem. Visiting with a7 and 5 year old, they loved it. The staff member in the Nature Center was wonderful with the kids and had them mesmerized by the turtle and bee hive. He really knew how to connect with kids.

Highlights were the Railway Garden and the Herb Garden. A model railroad is in an outdoor garden with the rail beds and trestles all made from twigs and limbs. The Herb Garden encourages touching the plants to release the scents of the herbs. While there the gentleman from the nature center walked by and recognized the kids from his previous conversation and showed them a slug that was near the herb garden. He showed them how it leaves a slime trail as it moves and of course that was a hit.

There are many trails and much time could be spent there.

This place is wonderful. Off the beaten track but well worth a visit. Plus we were able to use our MInnesota Landscape Arboretum membership to get in, through the American Horticultural Society’s reciprocal admissions program. (Traveling gardeners: Join your local arboretum/botanical garden to take advantage of!)

Fernwood was such a hidden surprise. This is a woodlands garden in it's very natural state unlike some created botanical gardens I have visited. There are many trails to walk along and they vary quite a bit. The creek by the water wheel was a beautiful place to sit and listen to the birds and water. You can also take a path to the St Joe River. Biggest surprise was seeing the Dawn Redwoods...in Michigan. The shop has some nice things to look at and there is a cafe, too. Everyone will enjoy the Railroad garden and I anticipate their expansion in the future

We were here to celebrate the life of a great lady! She volunteered here & they graciously hosted their facility. Gorgeous grounds, the many sounds of birds, and beautiful flowers! Just a great place!
