Had a great time at the ranch. The habitats looked great, the bears looked very healthy and the little ones were very active.

Be prepared to do some walking to view the bears. There are currently 4 very large habitats and there are trails that go around each. The areas are large enough that the bears can go away from public view. Apples and Fruit Loops are available for sale to help lure the bears closer to the fences that surround each habitat.

This is obviously a labor of love by the Oswald family. All of the bears have been rescued and brought to the Bear Ranch where they are taken care of for the rest of their lives. Several rescued cubs are also on display. No breeding of bears takes place on the ranch.

Viewing platforms are locaed by each of the habitat but photography is difficult in most places due to the double layer of fencing that surrounds each habitat.

This is a great way to spend an hour or two when in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

You will enjoy a self guided tour of this black bear sanctuary. Today there were 29 bears-under 1 year cubs, 1 year cubs, adult males and females. You can view them in their natural habitats. All are rescued bears. The Oswald family is great and answered any questions we had. Unfortunately, we didn't get to hold a cub as expected. There is temporary glitch in the interpretation of the rules about handling cubs. We'll be back next year to hold one!

This visit was a followup on our visit 8 years ago when we were allowed to hold and feed the baby bears. At that time we fed Abby and wanted to come back to see how she had grown. The staff as usual was very pleasant and Mr. Oswald was also available and answered alot of questions regarding why guest were no allowed to hold and feed the bears. We should all get involved with lesiglation to get this new law passed to help this very kind and compassionate person raise money for these gentle giants. Our hats off to you Mr. Oswald for the great job you and your staff are doing for these wonderful animals. We totally enjoyed our visit and will continue to return when we camp in the up Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Clinton twp, Mi.

Getting to see bears so close in such a caring environment was beyond words! The cubs "growling" while eating the food coming down the tube was adorable. They played in the water and moved the empty tub around. The adults just sat and posed for the crowd. It was an awesome experience!
