My husband and I used to go to Skip's on a regular basis about twenty years ago because we had some dear friends who liked to hang out there. We decided to take a drive(30 miles) to see if it was as good as our memories were of times gone by. We called ahead and were told reservations were strongly suggested. The outside of the restaurant has not changed much. It is nothing fancy, plenty of parking. We were surprised when we got inside to see an advertisement for a buffet.(It was a Saturday evening). Price:29.99. Since it had the prime rib we had come for AND crablegs, fried shrimp, stuffed white fish, green beans almondine, red potatoes, oysters, cold boiled shrimp and a small salad bar(along with a few other items) hubby decided to get the buffet. I opted for a small filet with double baked potato. We were both very pleased. The crab legs were very nice size. Everything was kept filled even though there was quite a crowd. My filet was perfect as was the potato., salad and cream of broccoli soup. The service was very efficient without hovering. There does seem to be room for larger parties(i.e. 12-15 people). We saw bachelorette parties, girls night out and alumni get togethers all there. The manage came by each table to be everyone was satisfied. We will definitely not wait another twenty years to go again!

Labor day weekend steak and seafood buffet was very popular. of the menu the food was superb. Seating in the bar and main rooms were available without a reservation. Seated at a table, we felt a bit crowded, and were placed at a small corner table with dim to no lighting. Wait staff was polite and attentive. 30-60 person, plus drinks.

I am so pleased that Skip's ranks No. 6 of the 25 restaurants located in New Buffalo. And I am so pleased that the majority of our reviewers love our food. In reading reviews, however, occassionally reviewers indicate we are "expensive." Skip's has been in operation for nealy 40 years, and has always offered the highest quality in food. Our prices reflect the quality we choose to purchase for our customers. Our menu is large and we do offer lower priced items starting at $7. We also pride ourselves in offering all courses with our entrees: soup, warm bread, fresh-tossed salad and a choice of a side dish. Our dinners are not ala carte. In comparison to some of our competitors, all of our dinners are three courses. We have discussed purchasing lower-cost food, thereby allowing us to lower menu prices, however, our customers have come to expect a certain level of quality from Skip's that we, as owners, are not willing to jeopardize.

We wanted to enjoy the last fleeting days of warm summer nights so we asked to be seated on the terrace since the seafood/prime rib buffet was not what we wanted. It was quiet and the weather was perfect. Another couple joined us on the terrace and we conversed together while I indulged in their Berry Beauty martini. Made with Raspberry vodka, blackberry brandy, s&s mix, etc. It was so refreshing! I chose the Canadian Walleye and you have your choice of broiled or fried and either 1 16oz portion or 2 6 oz. portions. My better half loved the Fried Perch plate. Again, you have a choice of a 6 oz. or 8 oz. portion. Note: the 6 oz portion is more than ample along with the salads and other fixins. Shared their double baked potato which rounded out a perfect meal. Just a nice restaurant, with locals and tourists alike, to enjoy a good meal. Their seafood buffet/prime rib is awesome but we really don't eat that much and always choose smaller meals. But, their buffets are fantastic. Service was a little slow on the terrace, we didn't care, but again Friday and Saturdays nights we travelers have to expect that.

I was surprised by the tastiness and tenderness of the prime rib, the best I've had anywhere in years. That was a very pleasant surprise. My wife chose to have the buffet, and did not fare as well. The crab legs and claws were rubbery, not very tasty (I warned her we weren't in Maine or Seattle). The twice baked potato was served in a dish rather than the potato skin, but that didn't matter...it was also fantastic.

Pricey for the area but the steak, seafood (king crab legs YUM!) were amazing. We went for our anniversary and splurged on our choices. We loved the food, the twice baked potatoes were scrumptious! More like a potato casserole though... missed the skin! It will take a week at the gym to burn it off lol

You get a TON of food! Soup, salad, bread, meal... You won't leave hungry.

The service was awesome! My only pet peeve is seating everyone right on top of each other when there is room to spread diners out. But we plan to go back for other special occasions :)
