“Good value - close to the casino!”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

We stayed at this hotel because we were visiting the small nearby town of Sawyer, and because we wanted to visit Four Winds casino during our trip. Fairfield Inn is only 2-3 minutes from the casino, which makes it simple for the gamblers. There is also a shuttle to/from the casino, which we did not use but is a nice perk.

Check in/out - quick and friendly
Room/bed/bathroom - we had a king room, which was nicely decorated and very clean. The bed was fine, though I found the pillows to be a bit mushy. The bathroom was large and very clean - only issue was that the tub was narrow and the bottom was a little too rounded. I almost lost my footing the first time I took a shower. Nice wide shower heads and good water pressure, though.
Breakfast - very good, with warm foods (eggs and sausage & biscuits and gravy the day we were there, as well as make-your-own waffles), and yummy muffins. There was cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc, etc. Coffee was very good, also.
Pool/exercise - the pool and hot tub were small, but the area was clean and had adequate towels.
I was impressed that there were handicapped chairs to lower someone in to the pool or hot-tub. I had never seen that before, and thought it was a great idea (hey - I might need that someday!) Exercise room was small with 2 treadmills and an eliptical - all 3 machines had tv's attached.

Overall, we liked this hotel, and would stay there again on our next trip.

We stayed recently at the Fairfield Inn with another couple during a weekend getaway to the Harbor Country area. The hotel is newer and nicely decorated. The rooms were comfortable. Interestingly, the TV's were not in HD, which seems a little strange in the year 2013. We didn't watch a lot of TV, but with the Masters golf tournament going on, we did watch a bit. The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. Rooms are also fairly quiet - the hotel was pretty full when we stayed and we did not really hear any noise from other guests. The breakfast is pretty good and includes hot items like scrambled eggs, sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits, and waffles. Breakfast also included the usual spread of continental items like pastries, cereal, fruit, etc. We were not there to go to the casino, but we were presented with a shuttle schedule that seemed to have frequent runs. It's only a few minutes drive to downtown New Buffalo and the hotel is a convenient starting point for visiting the local wineries. The staff that we interacted with were all very professional and knowledgable. All in all, I woudl definitely recommend this place.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor, so maybe that's why it was so quiet. Only downside is the elevator is...

We stayed here 2 nights for a casino marathon weekend. Overall the place is very clean, service is spectacular and the rooms are very nice.

The breakdown: We booked the larger suite since we were staying 2 nights. The suite was very nice, swanky, 2 large screen tvs, a dock for you iphone, ipod to listen to your music, sofa, large desk. Bed was average comfort, not bad, not great, just average. Bathroom was large, decent water pressure in the shower, and lots of counter space for your toiletrees. The suite also included a refrigerator and microwave which the regular rooms do not have, which I heard people in the elevator complain about. Our only negative about the room was the temperature, it would at times get too hot, then cold, had a hard time staying regulated. Minor issue I had was the coffee maker in the room, it was just one of those little one cup coffee makers, it would have been nice to have a small coffee pot like many places have.

All the other stuff: Staff was fantastic during the stay at check in and during breakfast. They were always asking how you were doing, hats off to the staff. Breakfast was very good plenty of selection and the hot items were hot. The location of the hotel was perfect (at least for us) we were 5 minutes from Four Winds Casino and about 15 minutes from the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City. There is a free shuttle to Four Winds if you are going to woop it up.

We would definitely stay here again for another casino adventure!

Room Tip: If you are staying more than one night, spend an extra 20 bucks and get the suite.

Calling all winos...if you are looking for a clean and friendly hotel that is close to one of Michigan's best areas for wineries, then look no further. My wife and I highly recommend the Faifield Inn of New Buffalo for your next stay. Upon checking in we inquired about the local wineries and if they had any iformation. Not only did they help us out, but they gave us free tastings for two of the areas wineries. Excellent!

We were remodeling our local home and needed a place to stay for about a month and chose the Fairfield Inn. During that time we got to know the staff and the facility very well. We were given a very nice room and were we treated like family during our entire stay. We also had our small quiet dog with us and he was welcomed as well. The room was very large and comfortable, very clean. We had two issues with the room and they were fixed immediately. We needed some help with getting documents downloaded, printed and emailed and we were helped with those with a smile. The staff is friendly, very helpful. The breakfast was typical for the hotel but it was always plentiful and fresh. Good coffee. Two large flat screen tvs. Even though it is adjacent to the highway the road noise was never an issue and I am a light sleeper. The staff and hotel made being out of our home much less difficult. And I saw the staff interact with people staying just one night and they received the same friendly service as we did.

We stayed 2 nights for a weekend getaway, and chose a 2 queen bed suite. The suite has the extra sitting area, with a pull out couch, giving all 3 of us our own bed. A nice option for us, as we ranged in age from late 30's-mid 60's - and it's not always as comfy sharing a bed as it was when we were younger. :)
The room was spotless, and very little wear and tear. Our suite also had a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The fridge didn't keep our things that cold, but it was adequate, and nice to have so we didn't have to keep everything in coolers. All of the decor is modern and the room was spacious.
The beds were comfortable - not too hard, and not too soft. Bedding was clean and crisp without being too "scratchy".
The pull out bed was what you would expect from a pull out. Obviously not as comfortable as a regular bed, but adequate and not horribly uncomfortable. It was clean and easy to make. Thankfully the legs that pop out are fairly far under the bed, so that anyone walking past the bed (when it's popped out), won't catch their bare toes on the metal legs. (I've done this plenty of times before, so felt that I should mention it.)
The bathroom was spacious, with a giant countertop. Excellent for sharing with 3 women. Towels were pretty scratchy and stiff...I appreciate the cleanliness of them, but they were pretty rough. I always bring an extra from home just in case of situations like this.
We never used the TV's, but they looked great. Also looks like it had an ipod stereo system in the sitting area. Not sure if that's what it was, and never used it, but if that's a a bonus for you, I think they have one.
The hot tub and pool were nice. Neither were very big, but it was well taken care of and a nice spot to relax.
The breakfast and the eating area were nice. All the basics of hotels that offer included breakfasts - cereal, muffins, bagels, hard boiled eggs, fruit cups, Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, waffles, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, milk, orange juice, apple juice. I thought the coffee was very good. It's available all day long. Tea and hot water available too. Different flavored creamers were nice to have too. Sufficient selection of food for breakfast. The woman who was running the breakfast area was very kind and "motherly". Very personable and polite.
Check in time is at 4:30, and we arrived at 5:45 and surprisingly, our room was not yet ready. (Check out time is noon.) The manager on duty kindly offered for us to get some coffee, and wait, as it was almost ready, and gave us a room discount for our wait. (Not sure what it was, as we also used a AARP discount, but we were anticipating on paying about $270 for 2 nights, and we ended up paying $240.)
We didn't use it, but there is a shuttle that goes to Four Winds Casino, with pick up/drop off times listed at the front desk. It's also about 20 minutes away from at least 10 great wineries, and 20 minutes from Michigan City, where there is outlet mall shopping and Blue Chip Casino.
We had a great time and felt safe and completely comfortable at this hotel. We plan on visiting this same hotel next year for our annual winery, shopping and casino weekend getaway. I wish that we would have found this place last year when we went. Last year we stayed at Blue Chip. Nice place, but so big, it took forever to get in and out of, and wasn't as clean, and was a LOT more expensive. I read that the average price for a hotel room in 2013 is $107/night. This place is right around that price, or a little more, depending on the night, or if it's a weekend - and well worth it. I don't require luxury when I stay at hotels, but I don't like to stay in dumpy places either. I loved the modern decor and feel of the hotel, and would check out any other Fairfield Inn and Suites from now on, just based on my stay here. We will be back, for sure!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the highway are a little noisier, but it's not horrible. You can hear traffic at n...

We have stayed here several times over the past two years - always clean, nice room, and the town has a few good places to eat. Perfect for stopping on a long trip, with a pool and near the Lake. We will stay there again next year too.
