What a find!
Location 1: Charente Maritime is a beautiful area of France, far enough south to guarantee good weather but not so far as to be an endless drive and too damned hot in Summer.
Location 2: the accommodation feels like it is in the middle of nowhere, yet is so close to Saintes (which is a gorgeous town) Port d'Envaux with its 'beach' and good restaurants, Taillebourg (more jumping in the warm waters of the Charentes, plus v good boulangerie and the exquisite Auberge des Glycines) - oh and a whacking great supermarket just minutes away.
Location 3: ...as in French for 'rental'. Morag and 'Vince' have created a magical little gite in the grounds of their house; recently refurbed with more nice touches than space permits. Kayak and bikes available at no charge was just one example.
Congrats guys, and thanks for making it such a magical stay. It is not 'if' we go back, but 'when'...
The gite was so lovely Morag and Vince had made sure that there was everything there that we needed, every little thing was thought of - such a lovely welcome pack - so no need to have to rush out and do a shop...so very thoughtful...
Location - nice and quiet but so grateful to both Morag and Vince for all the little gems of places to visit and see. Loved St George De Didonne beach!
Ruby (the dog) was an added bonus - so very friendly...
From the moment we arrived to Morag and Vince’s warm, friendly welcome, we knew that we had chosen well for our stay in the Charente Maritime. Set in the owners’ delightful garden, Jacinthe Des Bois is a real gem in every respect. The setting is a haven of peace and tranquillity – we loved our “outdoor lounge” under the beautiful willow tree and enjoyed watching and listening to the birdlife, whilst sipping a glass of wine or delicious Pineau!
The cottage itself is bright, fresh and airy, prettily furnished, extremely well-equipped and is absolutely pristine, both inside and out. Morag and Vince have literally thought of everything to ensure a relaxing, comfortable and perfect stay for their guests - their attention to detail is second to none. We appreciated the generous range of welcome goodies on arrival – a huge help to start your holiday after a long journey.
The cottage handbook was also beautifully organised and packed full of helpful tips and information on places to visit. A perfect base for visiting the many attractive towns, villages, châteaux, gardens, beaches, etc, that the area has to offer, Jacinthe Des Bois is ideally located for touring inland as well as within easy reach of the coast. The beautiful, historic town of Saintes is literally minutes away!
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay in this beautiful cottage and very definitely hope to return soon. Thank you so much, Morag and Vince – it was a pleasure to meet you both - you are the perfect hosts in every respect. Of course, we musn’t forget to mention your adorable dog, Ruby – we miss her padding over to see us! À la prochaine! Un grand merci!
Ideal location about 40 minutes from the coast and other places of interest. 10 minutes from Saintes and Port D'Envaux on the river Charente. A compact gite, set in a lovely large garden in a quiet hamlet with excellent equipment inside and outside. Two good sized double bedrooms and bathroom, ideal for four adults. We arrived late evening having driven straight from the ferry and had not had time to food shop. We need not have worried as the welcome pack was excellent, allowing us to eat on arrival and have breakfast the following morning before we headed to the Hyper U down the road. We had a lovely relaxing week in this lovely area of France.
We stayed for a month in this lovely Gite near Port D'Envaux, travelling from Australia and it did not disappoint. The owners Morag and Vincent were very helpful but not intrusive. The Gite was very clean and beautifully decorated and the outside area under the trees with Ruby the dog as an occasional visitor was very restful. The area has lots to offer, near Saintes a biggish town with all the history and restaurants you need, as it a short drive to the coast, la Rochelle or Congac. For one week of our stay relatives joined us as well and it was still private enough. Very happy to recommend this lovely Gite.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jacinthe des Bois. Morag and Vince were both great hosts and really endeavoured to ensure that we had everything we needed so that the holiday was as relaxing as possible. The welcome basket on arrival was particularly useful!
The cottage itself has been fitted out to the highest standard, with all the amenities that you'd need. The barbecue area was great for relaxing during the long evenings.
The location is great for accessing much of the surrounding sights and areas of interest. The beach at Royan is lovely and is only about 30 minutes away. Saintes has all the amenities you might need, and some great historic Roman sights. Plus the bigger cities of La Rochelle and Bordeaux aren't too far by road.
We would definitely recommend the cottage for others vying for a chilled out break in a beautiful part of France. Hope to be back soon!
I stayed in a gite at this location 23 - 26 April 2016 the gites has recently been renovated and is absolutely fantastic it was so comfortable and could be used all year round the location is very tranquil and relaxing but within easy distance there is so much to do and see for both adults and children to cater for lazy days, sightseeing, walking, cycling the beaches are amazing and so safe for children. The is also a huge variety of places to eat and drink it was a wonderful few days I will definitely be going again and recommending it to everyone
