A friendly welcome by pleasant staff, a clean and bright room with a small patio surrounded with flowers. A short walk through the wood to several sheltered coves, what more could you ask for?
We hade dinner outside on a very warm evening, the food was excellent if a bit pricey, unfortunately the service was a bit erratic, (a half an hour wait for our aperitifs which eventually arrived with the starter!)
Breakfasts were also excellent with hot dishes freshly cooked from the kitchen.

This is a really nice hotel. I love the rooms arranged around the garden, which are spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive and there are some pleasant little walks within easy reach of the hotel. The food in the restaurant is good.
It is a trifle pricey for an area that is well provided for accommodation, but the ambience easily outweighs this.

What strikes when entering Les Prateaux is the smile of the owner who welcomes us and guides us to our room, or rather, miniature pavilion since most of the hotel is composed of single story adjoining rooms arranged around a nice garden. Rooms have their own small patio with couch and reclining chairs. The entire ensemble of rooms and patios are laid out in such a way as giving quite a good feeling of privacy. The whole setting, at least in late May light, was very relaxing. Even for a short "long weekend" it gave the impression of being on real vacations.

We were 3 people, occupying a twin "superior" room and a double "classic" one. Rooms were fairly spacious, tactfully furnished with matching drapes and bedlinen, and good quality wooden furniture. Toilets are separated from the bathroom; the Superior room had an additional door between entrance and the bedroom proper. Beds were excellent. Two small things: it would be nice to be able to lock the windows in a slightly ajar position for air at night; we missed some electrical outlets in the larger room

Beaches are very, very close; you can walk barefoot to at least one of them in the forest (5mn). The closest beach is 2mn away.

The breakfast was excellent; good quality bread and croissant, toasted "brioche" with salted taffy dipping, jams and fresh fruit. Two of us being amateurs of the US-style breakfast, we also had fried eggs, together with cold ham and a selection of real cheeses (as opposed to packaged). Not being in a hurry, we appreciated not having a buffet but rather being served the breakfast at our table.

We had twice dinner at the restaurant les Prateaux. Remarkable meals both; see separate review in the Restaurant section (Les Prateaux restaurant).

It was our first time in Noirmoutier; we certainly would like to come back to Les Prateaux.

Excellent service. Excellent reactivity from the owner. Nice room ( large and clean ) Great location, just steps from the beach.
Truely exceptional table (half board) definately worth it. Superb wine list chosen with knowledge and taste. However, I would make the lighting a bit more intimate in the restaurant and maybe include some large plants to separate the tables.
The grounds are well kept and cosy and the fake grass did not shock me at all as I know the lack of water in the Vendeé and the impossibility of growing grass in the sand! I rather liked it!
However, I would invest in some type of screens to separate the room patios as they are nice but not very private.
The rooms are large and clean but decorated more in a rustic rather than design style.
Overall a very BIG recommendation.

We stayed at this delightful hotel for four nights this Summer. We had two rooms overlooking the garden courtyard, each with its own outdoor seating area.

My wife and I had stayed here some 15 years previously, and recalled the hotel's superb setting, surrounded by pine woods, and but a short walk from the beautiful Plage aux Dames. This time, things were even better than we remembered: the food is now simply divine. Our "demi-pension" rate meant that we could dine a la carte - which was very good value for money. We had something of a gourmet adventure and our children (boys, aged 10 and 13) were excited by the menu, and chose to be adventurous, sampling the local fare - and really enjoying it. (We think they might have learnt some French too!)

All the staff were very friendly and excellent with the children. Most spoke English well, but were patient with our attempts at French. They were also able to arrange for us to hire bicycles - by far the best way to explore the island.

In summary: this was one of the best family holidays we've ever had and I am very keen to return.

Room Tip: We've stayed here three times, and sampled 4 different rooms. All are clean and elegant (in a rustic sort of way). We were delighted with our pair of rooms (23 & 24) at the "head" of the courtyard, but virtually all rooms look out onto the courtyard and are delightful. I would probably avoid the rooms nearest to the restaurant, however, as most diners choose to eat outside in the Summer, which might be irritating if one wanted to sit in one's private patio and have some privacy. Otherwise, this is a fabulous location and you really can't go wrong.
