“Winter Weekend in Noirmoutier”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

My wife and I had an excellent weekend stay at Blanc Marine in Noirmoutier. Jean & Jane were perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. We arrived late and they phoned a local restaurant to book a table and check they were still serving. They then escorted us there so that we wouldn't get lost in the dark. Breakfast on both days was magnificent and Jean's local knowledge was both fascinating and invaluable.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon in September of 2012. We arrived late in the evening on our first night and my wife actually cried because of how charming the property was.

Jean Dalric, the owner, is very hospitable. He immediately set us at ease, despite our late arrival, and brought us glasses of wine outside of our room. We thought there was a moth on our wineglass, but it turned out it was a butterfly. My wife thought that was a nice metaphor for the pleasantness of the entire stay.

The breakfasts we enjoyed with Jean and his other guests were very nice. We met a nice English couple who were bicycling across France, and a French couple from the mainland who were vacationing. Our experience meeting people in Noirmoutier felt more sincere, compared to our time in Paris, and ranks as our most enjoyable time spent on our trip.

Jean was very generous with his time and efforts. There were many personal touches that we did not expect but that made us appreciate the visit so much more.

Dalric is also an actor and has appeared in several movies and TV shows. If you ask him, he'll show you his website, which includes clips of his recorded performances.

All in all, a great experience and one of our favorite stops during our two-week stay in France.

Thanks to Trip Advisor commenters for helping us find Blanc Marine.  From the comments, I had a feeling it was someplace special, and indeed it is.  We just spent a delightful five night stay there.  Jean and Jane Dalric, the owners, could not have been more hospitable.  I had wanted to visit Noirmoutier because of a letter I had found that a great-great aunt wrote from there during World War II. She had gone to Noirmoutier in the hope (futile as it turned out) of avoiding German occupation.  Jean Dalric went out of his way to help me find where she had stayed and to provide me as much information as possible about the history of Noirmoutier during World War II.  He is well-versed in the history of the area and knows just who to ask to find answers to the questions he does not know.

As others have reported, Blanc Marine is meticulously maintained, with spacious, well-appointed guest facilities and every possible amenity, including a heated pool, spa, bikes, and delicious breakfasts carefully prepared by the owners. Noirmoutier is a lovely place to visit, and Blanc Marine is the place to stay during your time there!

We recently spent four nights at Blanc Marine and would highly recommend it.Our room bathroom and terrace were well furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The swimming pool was very warm and the hot tub with it's massage jets was fantastic especially as it is kept at a temperature of 37 degrees! The property has a spacious garden and is set in a surburban area a little away from the centre of the town but within a few minutes drive of the town and two beaches.

The breakfasts were excellent, especially for France, different types of breads, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, meat and cheese plus Jean Dalric's scrambled eggs and crepes.Breakfast can be taken on your private terrace or on the terrace of the main house we choose to go to the house and enjoyed our breakfast on three mornings with a delightful French couple.

The only small negatives I can think of are that our particular terrace did not have sunshine in the late afternoon/early evening and it would have been nice to have more bars and restaurants within easy walking distance rather than have to drive every evening. However if you are fit you can walk or cycle to bars and restaurants.

What makes this place is the owner Jean Dalric and his wife. Jean is a wonderful host and on arrival we were offered coffee and later a glass of wine. We had very good weather and some excellent food and would happily visit Noirmoutier and stay at Blanc Marine again.

Owner, Jean Dalric is a real gem,
Blanc marine is tucked away just outside the town centre, where you will fine a relatively spacious area with a pool, jacucci, and remote lawn mower which was rather like a pet.
Normoutier must be done on bikes which Jean has plenty of.
Be sure to ask for his speciality of scrambled egg followed by a story from his acting career.
Rooms were spotless and everything worked perfectly.
I had a real problem on the morning we were to leave. Car trouble, we had a jeep with 3 mountain bikes hanging off the back and the air suspension gave up. in 30 min Jean had me up to his local peugeot garage - an extreemly busy place. The saw me in a few minutes the guy fixed it in 2 hours ( I had prepared my self for a massive bill ) a 40cent piece of tubing and 2 hours labour was all it took.
Without Jean we would have been there for 2 days at least. Jean I'm eternally grateful for your patience.
Normoutier has a lovely beach attitude and Jean and blanc marine just fit in perfectly.
We had two teenage kids with us who both enjoyed the experience.

Room Tip: we had two rooms back to back but in my opinion the rooms beside us were just as good.

It was a little hard to find with the GPS, but once found it is a great little resort. The grounds are beautiful, with green grass and a large pool. The rooms are very nice, with modern bathrooms. The host is a highlight - very friendly and willing to help out. I took his advise on restaurants and found them to be amazing. It is easy to get offended when you get the bill at the end of your stay, because it seems that you have been charged for lots of things that you may or may not have used. Just sign up for the Room + Spa + Bike + Breakfast package before you go and then enjoy. When you get the bill, it lists things in a strange way which makes it look like you have been charged extra! Don't worry, the host is not a bad person!! The island has lovely beaches and fantastic restaurants, plus lots of bike paths to tour around. Not exactly the most interesting bike tour in the world, but very pleasant none the less.

Set between the traditional town of Noirmoutier and the beautiful Plage des Dames, this stunning chambre d'hotes is certainly one of a kind. You are assured of the warmest of welcomes - however rusty your French may be! The rooms are spotlessly clean with private patios for relaxing in the sunshine. The pool, gardens and other facilities are beautifully maintained. The breakfasts are a legend! Most notable of all, however, is the host himself, for whom nothing is too much trouble. It's no surprise his guests return again and again. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, then Blanc Marine is to be highly recommended.
