“Happy return!”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

20 years ago we visited this hotel for dinner, and promised ourselves that we would return for a short break. Eventually we got around to it and have just spent three wonderful nights. There has been some very tasteful development since our first visit making the hotel well worth a visit.
The bedrooms and public areas are tastefully presented and maintain their French country character. The gardens are neat and well maintained and provide quiet restful areas to sit and enjoy the sun.
The excellent attitude of the staff from the gardeners to the owners, is a major bonus, in a day of impersonal hotel chains. Nothing was too much trouble for any with whom we came into contact.
Then there is the food! A gastronomic delight. Most enjoyable, well presented and served by pleasant staff.
We had booked two nights en route from Italy to the ferry. However we rescheduled the ferry and were able to stay an extra night, we enjoyed it so much.

This is a small hotel in the countryside in Crepon. The grounds are beautiful. The service in the restaurant and the quality of the food was very good. Internet access almost not usable. Make sure you don't get a room in the building that has the breakfast room and the kitchen unless you like the smell of strong cheese as it is evident throughout that particular building. Staff was friendly and helpful. Condition of the rooms were very tired and worn, but clean.

Our hotel break in Normandy was booked through Brittany Ferries. Arranging it was easy - our Channel crossing was over-night so we booked a cabin. We were given our key card at check-in and found our cabin quickly. It was basic but adequate and gave us a more peaceful journey than in the passenger lounges. We reached Ouistreham (Caen) around six in the morning and made the leisurely drive to the hotel in Crepon. We were delighted with our room which was in the 16th century tower. It was small but had everything we could want. The bed was very comfortable and because we were in the tower, we had no neighbours close by to disturb us. There was little or no traffic noise and a good view of the lovely garden from the window. There was a pleasant lounge with a bar across the courtyard and the restaurant was a few more steps away. All parts of the hotel were tastefully decorated and furnished with appropriately old or antique pieces. The landscaping took account of disabled access and the gardens were beautiful.
We dined in the restaurant on two occasions and the food was delicious and well served by polite and friendly staff. Breakfast was far too appealing for our waistlines, with a good choice of cereals, bread, fruit and the usual accompaniments. Our intention was to visit the D-Day Landing beaches, the museums, Bayeux and the coastal towns of Deauville and Honfleur. The hotel was well placed for all these visits. On reflection, we felt our short break in Normandy was restful and interesting. The hotel was a perfect choice and we feel very lucky to have spent time in such lovely surroundings.

Room Tip: If you want more space, go for a standard room.

Our whole experience of this hotel from start to finish was perfect. The staff stayed on late to book us in and show us to our room as we were running late from the ferry. Our junior suite was spacious and beautifully finished. The hotel was clean and perfectly kept. They even have a vegetarian al a carte menu, not something you normally expect in France! Perfectly located being just 10 min from Avaranches. Would thoroughly recommend.

This hotel is stunning like a journey back in time but with all modern facilities. Every thing about it was first class the staff the food and the setting. An ideal location to visit the war memorials and cemetreys and lovely beaches.

This really ancient building has been beautifully restored to become a glorious characterful hotel with all mod cons. The staff are all delightful and friendly, the food is delicious and the rooms are all individually decorated and very comfortable. We had a "superior" ground floor room and our en suite had it's own door to the outside!
Only 5k from the coast it is an ideal base to explore the Normandy beaches
Would really recommend this place

Visited this hotel for both pleasure/business. This is ideal hotel to visit with the wife or to really come back from office environment and being able to prepare next day meeting in a relaxing environment.
Ideal starting place to visit Dday sites + only a c 20mn drive from city center of Caen. Very historical/old style and romantic but still comfortable rooms with everything in place what you need.

Restaurant of the hotel is a big plus. "A must" to try the gastronomic menu.

My next visit to Normandy, no doubt,...I'll be going here.
