“VERY NICE EVENING MEAL”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

We chose Le Vert on recommandation. This is a small hotel in a lovely old stone building full of character and nicely modernised. We started with drinks outdoors watching the sunset. Great Kir with a refreshing amuse bouche of watermelon balls in liquor.
As we had also eaten lunch we decided on two courses for dinner. All three of us enjoyed very nice starters and mains. Well cooked scallops on bed of carrot and foamy butter delicious. My mains course of beef in a sauce with root vegetables was rich and tasty and went well with the locally sourced Malbec from Chateaux Chambert.
Lovely spacious dinning room and good service added to the comfort and enjoyment of the evening.

Quiet, excellent food, great room, good service. We last came in 1995 and had good memories - these were further enhanced by our recent visit. No 'winding the handle' here but a constant improvement with particular attention to the cuisine. Don't miss this one - it is one of the best in a great area of France.

Unfortunately we could only stay 1 night, but would have loved to stay much longer.
The hotel is housed in a very old typically French stone building with lots of character, which of course is also reflected in the rooms, which are nicely decorated as well.
The hotel has a restaurant where they serve fantastic meals in a room wit a nice large open fireplace and lots of character again. Friendly staff and tranquil atmosphere

We stayed here in June for 5 nights as a basis for exploring the area. Le Vert is beautifully located in the Lot countryside next to a quiet road and near the pittoresque town of Puy l'Eveque. The first 3 nights we stayed in room nr 2 on the first floor which was spacious and had beautiful views on the meadows behind Le Vert. Closet space is a bit limited and unfortunatly this turned out to be the only room with a 'grandlit' (160 cm width) rather than a Kingsize bed. We understand this will be remedied shortly. The bathroom is clean and comfortable but did have a bit of a smell of a clogged drainage pipe (and the shower water indeed did not drain very well). Wifi is excellent. The second room we stayed in was room nr 6 (with vaulted ceiling) on the ground floor in a small building right next to the main building. Nice, spacious room with however smaller windows than in room 2 and therefore less light and lesser views.
Breakfast is in the elegant dining room and offers the basics (fruit, fruit juice, croissants, yoghurt). Contrary to what we have experienced in many other B&B's in the French country side the marmelade is not home made and the cheese is prewrapped processed cheese rather than the delicious French cheese
We can recommend the half board which not only is a good deal but also inludes a high quality dinner.
Owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I have mixed feelings about this hotel.

Our room was large, modern and clean and the same for the bathroom. And it is set in a quite environment.
But we had the feeling that this is in the first place a good restaurant that also happens to offer rooms. The reception, nothing more than a table with a bell to call someone, supports that feeling. Nothing wrong with it and service was prompt, but still.

The complementary aperitive (wine, fruite juice) between 6 and 7 on the terras is a nice gesture. And breakfast was very good and plenty.

Minus was the airco that did function but not seemed to be able to cool at full power. The afternoon sun warmed up our room beyond what is comfortable.

When your first interest is food, you are at the right place, if your main focus is on a room to stay you may be left in doubt about your choice. All in all I think it is somewhat overpriced.

We have been to Bernard and Eva's Le Vert for many years. In the 1990s we ran walks in the area and took them all there. We have long since retired from that but our successors still go there. Bernard and Eva told us some years ago that they intended to 'lift the market' and they have totally succeeded. Recent visits have proved such things as - they can cook fish perfectly (a good test), the wine list is good and not expensive, the ambience and service is excellent. The dinner menu is a choice of three entrées, three main courses and three puddings - and it changes every week. (Recently it has been reported that 70% of French restaurants use 'boil in the bag' imported stuff - you will NOT find this here!) It was €120 for two all up and worth every centime. Here's to the next time.

Room Tip: We were only using the restaurant this time;

Situated in the middle of the countryside, this is the ideal place to relax, unwind and enjoy superb food. The owners and staff made us feel extremely welcome. The gardens are an outstanding feature of the property. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good. Ground floor room is good for those with walking difficulties.
