“Slow train, loud commentary”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

This scenic railway journey was a big disappointment. (i) The commentary was loud, distorted, and relentless so we couldn't hold a conversation, (ii) the carriages were freight wagons with no absorption between the wooden seats and the track OUCH, (iii) the journey was slow & short - perhaps mercifully!
The one positive aspect is the wonderful views - take your camera. The train stops for a photo-opportunity at the best vantage point.

“Von Ryan's Express in the Dordogne Valley!”
Reviewed May 23, 2014

Travelling on this line reminded me of watching the 1965 film, similar tunnel portals, the train stopping on the viaduct, the sound of the steam engine preparing for the final getaway, uphill of course, and the drops to the valley below! On my visit, none of the sounds of WW2 Battles, just an old steam locomotive, toiling up the gradient on the return journey, smoke in the tunnels, spectacular views from the two stops overlooking the Dordogne valley below and a full train carrying many happy people enjoying the experience and views afforded by this iconic tourist railway, deep in the heart of the Dordogne, passing away a happy hour and a quater on an idyllic, sunny Sunday afternoon! What is there not to like about the experience?

“A Fabulous Excursion along a feat of engineering with superb views”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

Today was our second visit to the line having paid a visit there last year. Being a Bank Holiday here in France today, the train was well supported. The line itself is a major engineering feat along the side if the clifts of the Dordogne valley and offers superb views that can only be seen from the vantage points along the line, stops being made on top of viaducts etc. to take full advantage. For the railway enthusiast, there is surprising amount of items here. All in all, well worth the 10 Euros return adult fare and is a must if you're in this area.

“Truffadou steaming along”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

We visited Martel and rode on the Truffadou railway in April 2013 as part of a Treyn holiday. Whilst the trip was quite delightful the train was very crowded and the commentary was extremely loud.

“Wow !”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

This was an experience. We travelled along the line and stopped halfway so that photos could be taken. The view is spectacular, you are halfway up the 260ft cliffs. Hubby was totally enthralled, especially going through the tunnels with the smoke billowing around the open carriages. The railway is run by enthusiasts and what an excellent job they do. There is a station where you get on the train with a small shop, toilets and a cafe. Would recommend this trip to anybody who loves old trains. Try and get a seat at the front by the engine as we did for the full effect.
