“A charming place to stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

We had a lovely six night break in Domaine de Rasigous and were warmly welcomed by front-of-house man Hank. The main building is a beautiful two story creeper-clad old house (it's actually three story, the owners live on the top floor, but we didn't see them at all during our stay).

We were assigned a two story annex across the driveway from the main hotel. The apartment had a very comfortable living area downstairs, with mini-bar and CD player. Upstairs, the bedroom had a large and very comfortable king sized bed with washroom (twin basins), a nice powerful shower and toilet all en-suite. there was a large TV with DVD player and an iPod dock/alarm clock.

We were told that the owners are huge music and film fanatics and guests are encouraged to visit the wonderful library and browse at their leisure.

The lounge area in the main building was a lovely place to gather both before and after dinner - interesting art, large sofas, jazz music and low lighting. The dining area was a bit of a disappointment and lacked any real charm - one central chandelier really didn't do the quirky art collection justice. Food on the whole was good and was a fixed menu, so as long as you liked everything that was put in front of you, all was OK - vegetarians were catered for without any fuss at all. We would have liked to have seen some wonderful French cheeses on the menu from time to time, but alas none were forthcoming.

The only real gripe was the WiFi - the hotel advertises state-of -the-art WiFi in every room, this however was not the case and it point blank refused to recognise any Apple product anywhere in the hotel. We were told that the quality of the WiFi reception varies with the humidity, this is simply not good enough in this age of constant communication.

The swimming pool, spa and gym were not open during our stay (last week of June), so can't comment. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Again, lots of quirky art installations hidden around the place (the owners seem to have a fascination with lady's bottoms!).

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and Hank did everything he could to make our stay a pleasant one.

Room Tip: The annex room is lovely and peaceful (except for the odd owl screech during the night, but that was...

It's almost like a chambre d'hote but still in the country hotel category in a lovely early nineteenth century 2-storied house. Very attentive. Room very comortable and good value for money. Dinner outside (creative fixed menu) on terrace - very good cooking. No negative points at all.

Room Tip: either side ok - all rooms are quiet

I have read all the reviews before making a choice and all I can say after staying here 3 nights that none of the positive reviewers are exagerrating anything. The place is charming, the staff is friendly yet polite. We opted for half board which was a good chő
oice as the dinners and breakfasts were a treat. We stayed in the small house that is not part of the main building, it consists of a ground floor which was spacious enough for the kids with a stylish bedroom and bathroom upstairs. The garden is marvellous and enchanting it is a great place to unwind and relax after visiting the sorrounding area, the kids (6 yr old, 8 yr old) enjoyed it, too. The hotel is close to a small village though you have to drive to get anywhere but you get peace and quite and birdsong in return. We would love to return one day.

Room Tip: Choose the separate building if you bring the kids.

We spent a quiet happy evening and night at the Domaine de Rasigous and thought it was worth every cent we paid. The hotel is in the country in the middle of a garden of art. The rooms have very fine beds with good linens and the bathrooms have wonderful showers and nice amentites. We had dinner and were a little worried that it would be too expensive but it was fantastic. The other guests were french and the dinner conversation was very quiet, however when we settled into the sitting room for after dinner coffee we were able to have a conversation with a very interesting couple. You do not need to speak french in this hotel but it sure made it fun for my husband to have this after dinner conversation. There is free internet, free safe parking, a very nice breakfast and such a quiet room for a very good nights sleep after suffering with jet lag.
The only problem we had was we thought we were going to a different town (St Affrique) near Roquefort the cheese town. Luckily we discovered this mistake (on our part) before we started to drive to the wrong town. We did end up going to Roquefort to tour the cheese cave and buy some cheese (welll worth the effort) but this just points out how easy it is to make a mistake on your trip. It all worked for the best because we loved this hotel.

Room Tip: Room and bed very nice

I was delighted to be able to return to this beautiful hotel this year and just wanted to write another review to express how perfect our stay was....once again!

It was reassuring to know that the hotel remains as calm, relaxing, friendly and consistently good quality in all their approaches. Henri and Marie-Anne even apologised for the weather, I felt that if they could have improved that for us, they would have!! The gardens are as charasmatic, the rooms as elegant and the whole ambience as charming as before.

I think this is officially my favourite hotel in France and I hope to return on many more occasions.

Our 3-day stay at this hotel was the best part of our 10-day trip to France. From the warm welcome to the regretful adieu! The bedroom was spacious and complemented with lovely period furniture, elegant furnishings and the thoughtful extra of dvd and cd player together with tv and hairdryer. The room overlooked the peaceful gaden courtyard where we breakfasted and dined. Breakfast and dinner as we expected - first class. The staff were fabulous and Anna the owner ensured we lacked for nothing. We do so hope we will be able to return in September. Many UK hotels could learn from this hotel for the thoughtful extras that have been provided for guests. 5* +.

We all lead very hectic lives... work, family, commitments, socialing and then running our homes to mention just a few, so when I booked our late summer holiday I wanted to find a place which was civilised, quiet with a certain amount of charm in a very old fashioned way. I wanted somewhere where we could completely relax and let every last drop of worry and strain ooze from our minds, where we could completely recharge and refresh ourselves. This hotel ticks all those boxes and more.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by Henri, the host for our evenings there. My spoken French is very limited but I was willing to attempt the language and "get by" but Henri spoke perfect English so there seemd no point in me struggling through, murdering their beautiful language in the process.
The hotel itself is charming, it is peaceful, elegant and rustic at the same time and full of interesting artworks. The gardens are exquisite, they are not perfectly mauicured or neatly trimmed, quite the contrary, they are very naturally designed with scores of trees covering the 6 acres offering dappled sunlight into the hazy rustic lawns which are furnished casually with sun loungers and seating, metal, stone or wooden. If you do want to sunbathe, there is a very stylish decked area with a hot tub, gymnasium, sauna and treatment room, something for everyone.
I cannot continue this review without mentioning the food. The breakfasts were quite simple, very good and just enough to set you up for the day. We had our evening meals twice in the hotel and I wish we had eaten there more. The food was sensational, cooked I beleive by the owner who is Spanish. We ate quale stuffed with Frois Gras, tender lamb with red garlic sauce, scallops, all completely delicious and beautifully present and also a very reasonable price.
I cannot rate this hotel highly enough, I cannot wait to return and would recommend to anybody without hesitation.
Thank you Domaine de Rasigous for giving us a wonderful start to our Tour through your beautiful company.
