“Fantastic Stay”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

We spent 7 nights recently at this Chambres d'Hote and were very pleased to have chosen it. It is an interesting building decorated with flair and ingenuity. It is located in an ancient village just outside Beziers with the Canal du Midi flowing through the village. Our room was comfortable without being luxurious but what really made it for us was the warmth and friendliness of our welcome. Our hosts were charming and very helpful. Breakfasts are wonderful with home-made croissants, brioches etc supplemented with home-made jam. The evening meals are wonderfully good with sophisticated local cuisine and remarkably inexpensive for their quality. If you are visiting the Languedoc it would be worth making a detour to stay here.

My wife and I and our Labrador Harry stayed one night in La Chamberte. It was a freezing night almost down to zero and our room was cold. But with the air con heating and the radiator on, by the time we went to bed it was fine. Also a very comfortable bed and all 3 had a good nights sleep.

But that was nothing to the eating experience which was so well done by the new owners, that we both said it was one of our finest overall dining experiences in France. The food was simple, but cooked to perfection and so well presented, it was just like being a personal guest at a friends home. Also our dog Harry enjoyed laying in front of the log fire in the dining room while we ate.

Breakfast was also excellent.

So, if you have a well behaved dog, enjoy French cooking and like something different, then go for it. We will certainly be back. if you don't have a dog, go anyway!

Room Tip: take your slippers if staying in winter. The floors are a tad cold.

It's not a place we would have booked had we seen the concrete bedrooms, not a mat in the place, several things let it down but to be fair, these are new owners trying very hard to pull it together. Forget the room, concentrate on the food, it was great and inexpensive, the entire meal could not be faulted and we have paid far more for similar meals in other restaurants. The new owners are charming and hardworking, once they have a chance to sort out the bedrooms, we would go back. One final mention the breakfast is to die for, fresh homemade jams, homemade brioche, homemade bread and freshly brewed coffee that alone was worth what we paid for the room.

Room Tip: The room we had was much too small, only i chair, there are larger rooms but these need to be reques...

I like quirky hotels and this Chambre d'Hote is certainly that. A fascinating and unexpected building with charming owners ( Don't expect too much English spoken but you can get by very readily with Franglais. )Ours was a 1 night stay and included dinner which was simple but well prepared and presented.Breakfast was first class.Overall extremely good value as long as you realise you will not get the facilities of a 3* hotel.
If there is a criticism it would be that its time for some new towels as the ones in our bathroom were on the thin side

My wife and i Stayed here for only one night in July which was a shame as we would have loved to have stayed longer. The hosts were charming and the hotel equally charming.
The husband is a chef and they normally provide dinner but alas not on this night. If the breakfast was anything to go by it's a shame we missed dinner. I'd have no hesitation in staying here again. The earleir review complaing about the size of everything is obviously used to more main stream hotels that lack the charm and warmth of this type of accomodation. I worry about people who carry a tape measure on holiday

I stayed at La Chamberte for 4 nights from Feb 23 to 27 of this year. Was in the area on wine business and this small hotel is perfectly situated for me. When I last stayed there in 2006, it was with the original owners. Unfortunately then we were only there for one night and a short one at that. It was very nice and full of character. This time, with new owners, Caroline and Vivian, a couple who used to own a restaurant in Mèze, I had a very lovely stay and was able to appreciate the place better. The food, especially at dinner, was amazing and for that alone it is worth the stay. Bed is comfortable, shower is nice and hot, and it is nice and quiet. C and V made me feel very welcome and comfortable, with a lovely fire roaring in their livingroom, tasty local apéritifs and appetizers before dinner. I wish them much luck going forward, they are already totally booked most nights for the dinner.....and as the seasons warms up, so will the rooms!

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have different levels in them, by which I mean steps. This can be confusing at ni...

Believe that La Chamberte has recently had new owners (taking over May 2011) and we stayed for 3 nights (bed, b/fast and dinner) in Sept 2011. Converted wine store, very well designed conversion and we had a simple but charming room. It is run by a young French couple who live on site - they used to run a restaurant near by and the husband is the chef and his wife the front of house host. Both are delightful and the husband is an exceptional chef - set menus each evening including a cheese course with local wine was excellent - inventive, full of flavours and a real gastronomic delight.
The rooms are simple, for sleeping, and we spent all day out and about exploring. This isn't the hotel for you if you want infinity pools and on site entertainment.

Room Tip: sorry - only saw our room on 1st floor
