We stayed at Maison d’ Octon for three months (late Jan- late April). First of all, Laure is a perfect host and then you have the property which was perfect in every way for us. The village was very quiet in Jan but started to liven up in Feb and I am sure it is hopping in summer. The village has a post office, mini-market, library (photocopy etc), 4 vintners, restaurant/bar, hotel/restaurant and church. About 15 kilometers North or South you have towns with markets, gas, etc (Lodeve and Clermont l'Herault). Laure’s property was just perfect; it is a period house of the 19th Century and has thick walls with exposed rock in some places, beamed ceilings, winding open staircase and modern showers (2) and two wc with one on the ground floor and one upstairs. The beds, linens and cooking wares are all super and complete. Heating, water pressure and hot water all great. We especially enjoyed the fireplace/fires in the living room. The size of the fireplace is perfect for the size of the room. We also enjoyed the upstairs “deck” area with view of the lake as well as the front “porch” where you can overlook the going and coming in the village. If you desire a period property with modern/clean lodging this is the place. The property has excellent storage capacity either in the home or below in the lockable “garage” area. As I have noted, this is an older property and thus expect the floors and/or the stairs to be somewhat uneven. There is no problem with either as this all helps establish the outstanding character of the property which is a must requirement for someone like us. This area of France is loaded with history and will be paradise for people who love the outdoors. Highly recommend for short or long stays.
