“One of my best traveling experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for a night. What an amazing place. Unfortunately we couldn't stay longer but we really enjoyed everything. It might be kind of pricy but believe me if you really like to experience a relaxing natural feeling don't hesitate to stay there. Collias is already a beautiful place and this hotel makes it extraordinary. You have to pay extra for breakfast but its worth it. The staff are really helpful and friendly. You have to reserve a table for dinner at the hotels restaurant. If you didn't reserve you can go to the lounge and order finger food. All together, it was a great experience.

We were shown to a room at the top of the building but there were too many stairs. However it might have been a better room than the one we eventually accepted, I don't know. Our room was very cramped with an "afterthought" bathroom that felt added on - which was extremely cramped. The mattress had rips on the corners - something that could easily be covered with a bed skirt - and the overall feeling was lack of caring for what must have been a beautiful hotel at one stage.

The dining room was beautifully decorated and the food very good, as was the service. However the Maitre d'hotel seemed somewhat lacadaisical as well as bored and perhaps is coming up for retirement soon.

We waited at the front desk for ages to pay and eventually found that the lady of the house was in a meeting in the lounge with closed doors and had to be called out. In general one felt that we, the clients, were a secondary consideration at this establishment.

The town of Collias is well worth a visit, with its small winding streets and lovely old provencal houses. There is another restaurant in this town that looks interesting to eat in as well.

Dear mister and madam, we are also very disappointed to read your comments as we always try to do the best for our customers. If the room was to high we could have given you a room in the first floor. Our maitre d'hotels is not near the retirement and is very appreciated, some people come only to see him. Our clients are our priority and not secondary considers. Sincerely, Aurélie APARIS PERRIER

Cycled from Graveson to Collias and arrived on a very hot afternoon at this quaint hotel high up in the village of Collias. Hot and thirsty in sweaty cyclewear we were kept waiting in the small reception while an austere elderly receptionist chatted on the phone. Eventually she noticed us and summed a porter and returned to her telephone call. As a cold beer was not available we had to trek down the hill to bar to rehydrate. We had a very big bedroom, rustic furniture , an equally big bathroom with rustic plumbing in need of attention. Both the loo cistern and the large standalone bath had leaky in flow pipes - did not discover this until 3.00 am and lay awake listening to the sound of hissing pipes for the rest of the night. The hotel is better known for it's restaurant than it's rooms. We had dinner. It was fabulous but perhaps the service was a touch theatrical and atmosphere too serious. There was a hush on the astroturfed terrace rather than the cheerful bonhomie that should accompany such wonderful food and wine. It was not cheap. We did enjoy our stay but I wish the staff lightened up a little.

We were part of a small group tour and spent two evenings there. We enjoyed the lovely outdoor patio and secluded pool. Breakfasts were simply wonderful. The feeling is one of a small, family run inn and so we were surprised to find the dinner menu was magnificent, there being a very first class chef in attendance.

What a little gem of a find..but a bit of a trial to find it. Not their problem. Beautiful welcome, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Nice bedroom overlooking the church. We ate outside on the terrace above the pool area....astro-turf (I think) but it was stunning. Supper was very good but we ordered lobster as a special treat for my husbands birthday, knowing that this year it is more difficult to get hold of and therefore more expensive. It came with "poulpe" which is the body of octopus minus the tentacles etc; ie;octopus brains and ink...not for the faint-hearted...don't go there!
M. with the big moustaches is a great character. We'll be coming back!

We walked into Collias mid afternoon and found the hotel with no problem and were made very welcome and shown to our room. The room was spacious and well laid out, lovely bathroom with separate shower and bath. The bed was a good size, OK but not exceptionally comfortable - the settee was really comfortable to lie on the read a book! Lovely views from our room (16 I think) across the top of restaurant and plunge pool area towards and beyond the church. We stayed two nights and on the second night we ate in the restaurant which was a highlight for us simply in terms of the quality of the food. The restaurant was quite large on the ground floor of the hotel and it spilled out into the garden which was beautifully laid out. It was very quiet (would normally consider as too quiet) but with such fantastic food presented so perfectly by the very knowledgeable waiters and occasionally the chef it was just a great opportunity to marvel at how food can be presented and taste - without overpowering the flavour of the food itself. I have not had food better prepared than this, this food was simply exceptional, as was the service. My overall verdict is that this a very well appointed hotel in a lovely spot with fantastic food and I recommend it wholeheartedly. PS we got a lovely picnic for our onward walk.

Called me old-fashioned but Zebra-themed bedrooms and bathrooms with chandeliers perched in perspex boxes at the end of the bath in the Gard, perhaps the most rustic and rugged of French departements, seems, well, off, ill-judged....which is a pity because the place is run by lovely people and the restaurant, despite the mildly theatrical presentation which gets in the way of wonderfully creative and genuinely delicious food, is exceptional. Maybe, like the "amuse bouche" fancy French restaurants insist on presenting, a weird sort of " see- how-clever-I-am vanity, it's a flourish I just don't get. But, like game lodges in Africa with crystal chandeliers, it seems a trend too far when the region's native architecture, its materiel, is so exceptional and unique. But don't let me put you off. Stay here if only for the food. And it is comfortable and friendly and well-run.
