A unique accommodation option that was lots of fun for the family - especially our 2 young boys. And our host, Anna, could not have been more helpful and friendly, although the cottage we had, Le Pecher, was very private with its own courtyard and terrace.
We paid E369 for 2 nights in a 2 bedroom (sleeps 4), cave house. In addition to two large bedrooms, the house featured a large living and dining area, full size and fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, a separate toilet and a laundry area, etc etc.
We enjoyed the outdoor spaces, which included a patio with table and 4 chairs, a separate small deck with sun loungers. And a little cave outhouse room or ‘play room’ which our boys loved.
The house has been completed renovated and the fit out was a nice combination modern fittings and a few older/refinished pieces of furniture. There is large bi-fold doors are the front of the house, letting plenty of light into the front rooms, in the back bedroom it was a little dark without the lights on (great for sleeping).
I was wondering if it would be damp or musty. It was not damp, but there was a very, very slight musty smell after a day after we turned off the scented wall plugs. It did rain while we were there, so I don’t think that is unexpected or unacceptable. It would not stop me from booking again or recommending this cave house to others.
The location, although just off a main roadway, is pretty remote - I can't imagine being able to get there without a car. But the major chateux are an easy day trip, drive away.
