Such a quirky, cool hotel, part of which is nestled in a cave. The hostess was so friendly and nice. She helped us find an absolutely exceptional place to eat, and then a place with very affordable organic wine. I highly recommend.

On a recent classic car rally to France with a group of 12 cars (and their passengers) from England we had the pleasure of staying at La Rochelière, a delightful Chambre d’Hôte in Vouvray. The large blue metal gate in the narrow street belies the spaciousness of the property behind. Anneli and her husband, originally from Finland, our most welcoming host and hostess, live in the main house and the guest rooms are mainly in what was the stable block, with one large family room on the ground floor and 3 smaller ones above, the rest of the ground floor consisting of the kitchen/dining room and a comfortable lounge/study beyond, with internet access. The gravel courtyard has space enough for about 4 cars. There is also a ‘troglodyte’ room cut out of the massive cliff which rises well over 50 ft at the rear of the property. Also cut out of the rock is the spiral staircase leading up to the amazingly placed swimming pool well above roof level, with a birds’-eye view over Vouvray. The simple breakfasts, supervised by Anneli, were very good indeed with delicious home-made jams. Anneli was delightful and nothing was too much trouble. Not even the storm on our second night, with hailstones the size of golf balls, spoilt our wonderful stay. Anneli’s cleaning lady, originally from Portugal, arrived in tears after the storm which had totally decimated her rose garden. At least 3 vineyards were totally destroyed and many properties were badly damaged. Even in our group at least 4 of the cars were damaged by the huge hailstones. Certainly a trip to remember!

By far one of the very best b&b's I've ever been in. Visited the place twice in May (2013) and stayed both in the "accommodation wing" as well as in the "cave room". The rooms are elegantly furnished and very comfortable. Anneli does her best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The sauna which is built inside a cave is very nice with swimming pool and lots of privacy as it's located above the other buildings in the area. The evening sun sets just perfectly on your right when you're sitting outside and enjoying the views. The price for the sauna has also been kept on a very reasonable level, only 25 EUR for two hours. Highly recommended!

We just love Vouvray and visit most years to stock up on their excellent wines. Now we have found the perfect place to stay when we visit.

From the off the service that I received from the lovely owner Anneli was nothing short of excellent. She is an excellent communicator and replies to emails almost by return. Nothing was too much trouble from pre booking our restaurants to buying a bottle of delicious Vouvray fizz on our behalf to enjoy as an apero on our first night there.

The whole set up is fabulous. The location is perfect - in the village but not noisy and parking is a doddle as it's inside the gated grounds of the house.

The rooms are beautiful and well appointed and of course spotlessly clean.

The large kitchen where you eat breakfast is picturesque and well equipped and the breakfast table groans with delicious fresh breads, croissants, pastries and home made preserves. Coffee, tea, chocolate and juices are excellent and plentiful.

The lounge for guests is full of books, comfy sofas, wi-fi and even a computer with internet access for guests.

We wouldn't think twice about staying here again and are already planning our trip for next year.

By the way there is a swimming pool with breathtaking views and it was open for use in November - sadly the weather was foul so we didn't use it. Next time though...

Room Tip: We stayed in Victor Herault which was divine.

Gorgeous, spacious family room in beautiful converted stables with lovely, welcoming host. We stayed for 3 nights and could have stayed longer. Anneli, the host, was so helpful and hospitable. Great location, short drive from TGV station and central for many chateaus.

stayed here for three nights during a trip to chateaux country. loved it. a big spacious room, very nicely decorated, more than large enough for the three of us. like many places in the area, parts of the property date from troglodyte times. there's a small pool in the outside area that's opposite to the main guest house, which our daughter loved and in which she spent two mornings swimming. communal morning breakfasts; a refrigerator in which guests can keep their stuff; a helpful and informative owner. would have happily stayed longer.
