We stayed here with our two children (ages 3 and 1) for two nights in early march. Thought the weather was not fantastic, the accomodation and welcome from phillipe and nathalie more than made up for this.
The property is in the small village of blere, which is easy to get to and also not to far to all the main castles. The property has been delightfully renovated, and we stayed on the first floor in a room facing the river. The finishings in the room were very elegant, and the bathroom was immaculate.
Nathalie's breakfast were fresh and of a very high standard, the standout being her scrumptious applie cake.
Phillipe kindly offered us wine tastings from the vineyard on the property which was excellent. They both had fantastic recommendations for which castles to visit, and we took there advice and went to amboise on the first day, then chenonceaux and loges on the second day with dinner in tours, and finally Langeais on the last day.
We also borrowed bikes from the property to cycle along the river, with chenonceaux being a 40minute ride away.
Overall i would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing and beautiful place to stay.

We stayed in this beautiful chateau for four nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The chateau is set in magnificent grounds along the River Cher and is perfectly placed for exploring the Loire Valley. Nathalie and Phillippe were absolutely charming hosts, always extremely helpful and ready with local knowledge and recommendations for restaurants and trips. Nathalie's home-made breakfasts were memorable! Our room was large and well appointed with a modern bathroom and overlooked the river. We spent 3 weeks in France and stayed in some lovely hotels and B & B's but this was the highlight!

We stayed at this cosy family-owned château last weekend..& were delighted with our experience! Nathalie, Philippe & Pierre-Olivier were all super friendly and helpful. They welcomed us into their beautiful home, which we had chosen as a base from which to briefly explore the Loire Valley. The little village of Bléré is just 10km from Amboise and very central to all of the famous chateâux including Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Chambord & Ussé.
Our spacious room within the château was beautifully decorated & looked out onto the River Cher... along which one can cycle to Chenonceau on bikes provided by the owners. A tasty French breakfast was included each morning, served downstairs in the magnificent dining room. A pool table & television are also available for use by guests. There are gîtes, which are stand-alone cottages available to accomodate groups, as well as a pool if you are visiting in summer. Wines from the onsite vineyard are available for tasting and sale. This really is a fabulous spot...

We chose the Château for a New Year's get-together with friends, and were very pleased with our stay. We all have children, and the domaine is absolutely perfect for long walks & outside playtime, complete with a chicken house that the kids loved to go and check out. The individual houses are lovely, spacious, and furnished with everything you need (high chair, crib, microwave, TV...). We also felt warmly welcomed by our hosts, who made the stay particularly memorable, suggesting a wine-tasting session that allowed us to taste the Château de Fontenay wine as well. A beautiful time was had by all!

Our family group of 7 just returned from 4 nights in the Loire at the Chateau de Fontenay and I couldn’t wait to be able to write this review. As the “trip planner” for our group which included my wife, 2 grown sons, 12 yr. old daughter, aunt and brother-in-law, the pressure was on to pick the “perfect” spot in the Loire Valley. After exhaustive research on TA and other sites, I selected this property based upon a little bit of a hunch from my email correspondence with Nathalie Carli who, along with husband Phillipe, are the owner/operators. Her level of interest in trying to accommodate our group’s needs and in helping with trip details went well beyond any of the other properties I contacted. It didn’t take long after arriving to see I was spot on with my choice!

Le Chateau de Fontenay dates back hundreds of years. The main house is the primary residence of the Carli family. They happily share 3 of the rooms on the second floor (first floor in Europe) with those of us lucky enough to book rooms there. While the main house was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the 1800’s, the outbuildings are primarily original going as far back as the 1500’s. Nathalie and Phillipe are proud to show guests around or are equally as happy to let you wander around the property on your own. We were lucky enough to get a guided tour of the entire property from Phillipe. They have recently added a beautiful pool (too cold for us to use) and the property also includes the vineyards for their wine label. As advertised, the Cher River abuts the back of the property and there is a trail along the river for walking or biking. The window in our room afforded a beautiful view of the river and fields beyond.

The Carli's have chosen to preserve much of the original character of the house and added modern conveniences where necessary. The rooms are large and well-appointed with comfortable beds and sparkling newly remodeled bathrooms. They are still putting some finishing touches on the upstairs guest room area, but this in no way detracts from the overall ambiance of the house. On the first (ground) floor there is a wonderful breakfast room and sitting room for the guests. Nathalie served us a traditional French breakfast each morning complete with homemade jams and different pastries she cooked herself. In addition to being a delightful hostess, she is also a great source for information about local restaurants and the various chateaus in the Loire and even provided tickets at a discounted price! Nathalie was completely available to us at any time she was in the house. The small town of Blere is only a couple of minutes away and has a full complement of stores and restaurants. Amboise is larger and about 10 minutes away.

Nathalie’s parting comment as we sadly left this wonderful slice of life in the Loire was that she hoped our stay at their home had created memories. That is exactly what her and her family accomplished for us. All in all from a lodging standpoint, it is hard for me to imagine a more authentic Loire Valley experience and I cannot recommend the Le Chateau de Fontenay highly enough.

Our holiday plans for this summer were to explore the Loire valley and its historical treasures. The idea was to stay at a nice, relaxed gite with friendly hosts, far away from stress and noise, be at leisure, visit a historical site per day, degustate the local food and wines, read, walk, just relax. We discovered the Chateau de Fontenay occasionally - having found out that the gite, booked in advance, does not offer the promised quality, we just moved out after the first night in it and looked in the area for something really worth a week stay.

Natalie, Philippe and their family provided us with exactly what we dreamt about. Great atmoshpere in the chateau and its surrounding park, a comfortable gite with stylish, cozy and up-to-date furniture and appliances, warm hospitality, information and support when needed, interesting talks, good wine from own production. All family members are really good in English, which is a huge bonus with my non-existing French, which is just good enough to order a meal in the restaurant.

The location of the chateau enables one to visit all possible interesting places in the Loire - no matter if it is one of the numerous, famous historial sites and chateaus, or Le Mans for the car fans.

We were also very impressed by the love and dedication of Natalie and Philippe, with which they take care of their jewel of a house and its surroundings. There are continuously new plans for further development and improvement of the chateau and its grounds. This care extends to their B&B customers. One does not really feel as customer or a guest but as a good friend.

We were really lucky to discover de Chateau de Fontenay, Natalie, Philippe and their family, and absolutely happy during our stay there. We will be back !

We spent a wonderful time at this place. The rooms are of a high standard, everything is new, clean and fresh. The place is located at the beautiful area, close to all the famous chateaus. The owners- Natalie and Philippe is a beautiful, friendly , very helpful couple. They provide a good service, will help you with anything you need or ask, and also you will always have your privacy. I would recommend all my friends to stay at this place. We definitely, will be back to this place when we are ready again to visit France. I wish for Natalie and Philippe a great success in their business.
Thank you , Natalie, we remember your beauty and kindness, wish the best for your family,

Sincerely,

Irina and Williams ( from Wales)
