Inland Brittany is lush and green, quite a contrast to the rugged coastline and Rochefort en Terre, the village of flowers, is a little gem, with a photo opportunity on every corner. Le Pelican is right in the main square, a beautiful old building with 7 rooms and a top class restaurant. The staff, both at reception and in the dining room could not have been nicer- friendly and efficient. We chose the demi-pension, which included the evening meal and thought it was outstanding value for money. Food was excellent, the best oysters I've ever tasted (the sea is just 30 km away) and a 2004 Bordeaux (at a very moderate price) was the best wine we had on our trip, and we tasted plenty. The manager has good English, is passionate about Brittany and provided good advice on sightseeing. One feature was the endless array of beautiful Limoges china at every meal, including the ample breakfast. The village is full of galleries and little craft shops and there's an Interesting chateau too.
