“Just Perfect”
Reviewed September 4, 2010

Chateau Julie is just perfect... in location for Bordeaux Airport - 30 mins by car - and in style - stylish yet homely. We stayed there at the end of our holiday. It's just outside the little village of Virsav. We were blown away by it. It really is that nice. All the rooms are named after countries and we got Espagne, on the first floor. There are three large shuttered windows, in a very spacious room with seating, a desk and comfortable twin beds (put together as one kingsize). The ensuite bathroom is large - there is a bath and a separate shower enclosure, with cerise and lime coloured towels. That's the good, now for the bad. The floors are wooden so you will hear some noise from an upstairs room. It was also very hot when we were there and there is no air conditioning in the bedroom. You must have at least one meal at Chateau Julie. It was 30 euros for 3 courses and coffee. Chef Rinse presented us with a mouth-watering menu of carpaccio stuffed with rocket and pine nuts, followed by a magret du canard, then a tempting cheese selection or dessert. And of course it must be complemented with one of the chateau's own wines. Renee served a plentiful breakfast the next morning. Husband and wife team Rinse and Renee are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We didn't want to leave and hope to be back some day.

Excellent stay. two nights only but will return. Great hospitality, excellent food. Dutch hospitality is second to none! Good location for exploring the vineyards. Get the ferry from Blaye to the left bank of the Gironde, but the right bank is more friendly, more welcoming, better value and less stuffy! Rooms on second floor are a bit of a struggle, but lovely, large rooms.Outside dinner guests can be a bit noisy. If you are tired ask for a room away from the terrace. A gem, though.

During our four-day trip through the vineyards of Bordeaux we stayed at Chateau Julie. This was a fantastic experience. Why is this so good:
1. The owners (Rinse and Renée) are super friendly;
2. The food is really good and not expensive at all; (30 euro's for three courses)
3. The prizes are really good considering the size of the rooms;
4. The environment is beautiful.

For those who like to visit both the Medoc and Saint-Emilion/ Pomerol region this is a perfect point to start your daily tours. I would suggest this accomodation to everyone!

Intrested in the Chateau Julie because our (grand)doughter's name is the same.
We rented the gite for 10 days, a cosy place fully equiped with a big kitchen and furniture 2 big bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
When we arrived the host welcomed us and offered 3 bottles of Chateau Julie 2002, very attent. We also were welcomed with a drink, in our case a can of coffee.
They really did all they could do to make our stay there comfortable, and we have nothing but gratitude and admiring for them.
We would like to thank them and wish them all the best, also give the kids a big hug.
Maybe we will come again! We sure will attent our friends on this place!

I can't say enough good things about our stay at Chateau Julie. We traveled there for a four-day weekend with our three month old son and my parents. Our room was ready with a crib and changing area for the baby. The owners went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They also served an amazing breakfast each morning.

While the property isn't very close to anything (like restaurants), it's an easy drive to get to things. It's also in the middle of the region, making day trips to other chateaus quite accessible.

Family room good and clean. Fantastic views of the vineyards. Less than half an hour's drive to Bordeaux. But what made this B & B truly exceptional was the hospitality. Jos gave us all a drink on the terrace on arrival, rang a local restaurant to book us in for dinner (knowing that it was a bank holiday and many places were closed). She suggested that we buy a picnic, saying that it was expensive to eat out two night's running, and then when we arrived back from market with the messiest dinner ever (paella, roast chicken, juicy tomatoes), she set out table outside with all the necessaries, all with a really relaxed, pleasant manner. Great for us and the children.
