Le Chevrefeuille
Reviewed July 15, 2013

We stayed here for three nights in July and had a wonderful time. There is a very relaxed atmosphere, the food is absolutely delicious (thanks, Ian!), and it is located in one of the most beautiful parts of France. Many have noted that it is a great place for families with small children, but it is also excellent for couples and those with older teenagers. If you have the chance, take Ian's cooking class: it was one of the highlights of our trip to France. Thanks!

If you are looking for a place to stay in the Dordogne with children, it would be incredibly hard to beat the Chevrefeuille. The location is beautiful and perfect for visiting local attractions. The gites are a good size, in great condition and are well equipped for self catering. We were able to borrow a lot of the gear that we needed (cot, high chair, changing mat etc) leaving us with more valuable space in the car and our friends/family with more space in their luggage. The property has plenty of outdoor space, a fantastic swimming pool and more games and toys available than we could fit in during our week's holiday. The kids were exhausted every night after spending sunny days exploring the area, playing with the guinea pigs and chickens, swimming and running around in the fresh air - we have never had such quick bedtimes. Once they were tucked up in bed, we were left to relax on the terrace and enjoy the delight's of Ian's fantastic cooking and the local wine, knowing the kids were safe asleep nearby and within range of the baby monitors. All in all a fabulous holiday for parents and children alike.

Room Tip: If you are travelling with grandparents, Grapevine gite is a great option.

This place has pretty much everything a family with young kids could want - lots of space to run around in, some animals, a swing and a pool.

The food was also very good, and cheap for what you got - to note though that they don't do evening meals every day.

Sara and Ian are very helpful and friendly, and their kids make friends easily with those of the guests.

There's also a riding stables nearby (5 mins walk) for those who are interested.

Only downside (for some) is that it's not walking distance from the nearest town, so if you want to eat out in the evening you'll have to drive.

Room Tip: We took the family suite - because we wanted a separate room for the baby. Was nice and had a bath...

We were welcomed on arrival with a glass of wine and the friendly hospitality continured throughout our stay. The pool was lovely, they have a well equipped play room for young families and the evening meals were delicious and plentiful We stayed in the Grapevine gite which was very comfortable, clean and beautifully equipped. We were two couples and the menfolk went cycling every day on some very challenging but enjoyable rides.
We also spent a day at the cookery school which started with Ian taking us to the local market and explaining the different foods. We then all joined in cooking and eating the food he'd bought. It was a wonderful experience and we'll definitely be back.

We had a wonderful fortnight's holiday in one of Sara and Ian's self catered gites at Le Chevrefeuille in May this year with our 18 month old son Harry and (for one week) his grandmother.
The location was ideal; an hour's drive from Bergerac airport and within easy striking distance of a wide variety of rivers, castles, caves, picturesque bastide towns, excellent markets and fantastic restaurants. There are plenty of local walks suitable for all ages.
Le Chevrefeuille itself is a tranquil haven. Our gite was well equipped. We were helpfully provided with all of the baby/toddler gear that we could want, which avoided having to bring anything but a buggy and back carrier on the aircraft. Harry adored being able to run around the gardens, kick a ball, chase the chickens and to play in the well stocked playroom! We were also able to borrow bikes and a child bike-seat to take him for a cycle around the local villages. Best of all, Ian and Sara laid on a fabulous four course evening meal three times each week, which we were able to enjoy whilst within baby-monitor range of a sleeping Harry. Ian's cooking was by far the best we had whilst in France and is not to be missed.
Ian, Sara and their children are very welcoming hosts (Harry had lots of fun playing with young Alice) and we are very much looking forward to visiting again another year.
Le Chevrefeuille is a perfect location for a holiday any family with young children and we cannot recommend it too highly.

We stayed here at the beginning and the end of our week long bicycle trip in this area and this was by far our most favorite place! The owners Sara and Ian were wonderful and were most accommodating, the rooms were very nice, and the grounds were lovely. The breakfasts were excellent and the dinners we had that were prepared Ian were some of the best meals we had ... be sure to time your stay to take in one of these meals!
We would definitely return to this B & B if we come back to this area.
