“A great place to stay in the Perigord Noir”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2012

My family (2 adults and 2 boys aged 7 & 3 years) stayed here for a week in April. we booked a gite but ended up deciding to have all our breakfasts and most of our dinners at Le Chevrefeuille as I was a little unwell with the flu. Both the accommodation and the food was wonderful and was great value for the price. Sara was always very helpful regarding recommendations of things to do in the area. We fell in love with the area and the accommodation is very well placed for all the varied places that can be visited, including Sarlat la Canada and the many caves. We hope to go back sometime soon. PS: our sons highlight was the medieval castles in the area and making friends with Alice:):).

We stayed for a week at Easter time at Le Chevrefeuille. It's very beautiful with lots of lovely walks around it. We stayed in the gite which was very comfortable, a converted bit of the old barn. All the buildings have been really nicely modernised without losing old style charm. When you come back from a walk in the rain it's great to have central heating! No one has control over the weather! Sara did everything she could have to make our stay a happy one. We had 2 dinners cooked by Ian and Sara and they were both really delicious and prepared with care and skill.
I'd recommend this as a really good place to stay for families and for those who love walking and eating, as we do. There were lots of good things to do quite close by, and for those who want to laze around, the garden is spacious and pretty. We didn't try out the pool, as it was very cold at Easter, but it would have been inviting if it had been warmer.

We stayed at Le Chevrefeuille 4 years ago and it was such a wonderful experience. All we could think of since then was returning, not just to France, but specifically to Le Chevrefeuille. I didn't think it could top our first stay there, but somehow, they managed to do it. There isn't anything that will disappoint. The hospitality and warmth you will feel from the moment you arrive and meet Sara and Ian and their children will immediately tell you that you made the right decision to stay here. We stayed in the 2 bedroom gite and the first morning we woke up, we all commented how it was the best night's sleep we had in a long time. The gites and rooms and so comfortable and homey. They really aren't lacking anything and if they are, Sara is right there to help you out. Dining at Le Chevrefeuille is an unbelievable experience and we have gluten and dairy allergies and we still ate like kings. When you stay here, do not miss out on having Ian cook dinner for you. These were by far the best meals we had in the whole area. There is so much to do in the area. We spent a full week there and we could have easily stayed longer and seen more. I highly recommend Le Chevrefeuille for anyone. Singles, couples, families...there is a playroom!! If you have children this is the place to stay. But do not shy away if you are single or a couple needing a getaway. Even if families stay there, you can still have complete privacy and relaxation.

Room Tip: There just isn't a bad room or gite. Everything is beautiful.

Perigord Noir has a lot on offer and this farm house B&B is one of them. We stayed in the Garden room. It is the smallest but very cozy and comfy for two people. We arrived on Easter Sunday and was greeted by Sara enthusiastically. She showed us around her property and made us feel right at home. The evening meal for about a dozen people staying there was prepared by Sara's husband Ian, who we were told had been a chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The 4-course meal was arguably the best we had in the 3 weeks we spent in France. Even though the farm house is located in a quiet setting surrounded by open fields and farmlands, it is within easy driving distances of most attractions and nearby communities, including Belnac and Sarlat. The farm house itself is updated very nicely with modern amenities like wifi and a big swimming pool. There is no better place to make a home base in this foie gras and cave country than Le Chevrefeuille!

Room Tip: To fully enjoy the region as well as Ian's cooking, stay more than just a couple of nights like...

This was our 3rd stay and it just keeps on getting better. Sara and Ian have restored the house, rooms and gites vey sympathetically and to a very high standard. The accommodation is very comfortable for their guests. The gites have everything you need to enable you to really self cater. The kitchen is very well equipped. We were able to source food from the local markets knowing we would have all the equipment we would need to cook this when we got back. Le Chevrefeuille is situated in a quiet hamlet surrounded by stunning scenery. Sara and Ian's hospitality is outstanding. They are always on hand and ready to give any help or advice you need. Ian provides a table d'hôte menu at least 3 times a week. this is a wonderful treat if you're self catering. We ate 3 times again this visit and Ian's food continues to impress. Locally sourced food from the markets is whisked up into a culinary delight. We're quite awkward customers (1 vegetarian and 1 who doesn't eat vegetables) but Ian always comes up with something fantastic. Depending on the weather you either eat in the salon or outside on a beautiful terrace. We have nothing but praise for Le Chevrefeuille and everything Sara and Ian do. If you're planning a holiday in the Dordogne make sure you stay here you'll not be disappointed.

Room Tip: all the rooms are lovely

This was our fourth visit to Ian and Sara's and as always the standard of the accommodation and food were excellent. When we arrived we were greeted with enthusiasm and, throughout our visit, Ian and Sara went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and had everything that we needed.

This place never fails to impress, it is consistently excellent.

This was our second year in a row we stayed at Le chevrefeuille with our then 2 1/2 year old son. We enjoyed sight seeing and visiting the local markets during the day and would come back for biking, relaxation by the pool, and then would enjoy a delicious meal cooked by the chef and owner Ian. All the meals were fresh, made with local produce and meats and absolutely delicious every night we were served. The best part was that my husband and I could enjoy a romantic meal while our son played close by in the courtyard after he finished his meal. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, a true french country setting. The local countryside (prehistoric caves, castles, mid-evil fortresses, cave art, local wine- cahor, berjerac) is a sight you cannot miss. We enjoyed biking (le chevrefuilled provides bikes) on roads close to the inn among the acres of sunflower fields every afternoon with our son. The inn is a great value for a high quality experience the whole family will love.
