3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012

We went with another family to this hotel and were impressed with the friendly staff and clean rooms. We're told that breakfast will be served till 10: 30 am next morning but on reaching at 10 am next day, it was a disaster. The waitress was rude and unfriendly. The milk was over and on asking her, she said"it's over now". Our kids ate cereal with no milk!! There were only 2 bagels left in the shelf. The air conditioner was loud.

We were happy to serve you and your family at the Red Roof of Muskegon. I appreciated your feedback. Also thank you for the overall good review. The breakfast issue should not have happened and for that I apologize. Training staff is a continual work in progress. Thank you for letting us know of the problem. It truly is the best way to look objectively at a problem.
I hope you let us serve you again.

My wife and I recently stayed here over a long weekend for a family reunion. The main reasons we picked this hotel were location and price. The room listed at roughly 1/3 - 1/2 less than other places. The reason (we found out) was due to ongoing construction. Our room was in the "work zone", and had a thick coating of dust. We had to be careful going to and from, due to some tools left in the hallway.

Our electronic key would only stay keyed for one day, which was irritating but not infuriating. The advertised wi-fi did not work in the room. The first three days, the desk staff told me it was because I must be entering the wrong password or something. The day we left we were told that their provider had been having a problem in our wing over the weekend.

Those were the negatives. There were certainly positives.

The price was as advertised, so we got what we paid for. The staff were all very friendly, polite, and helpful. The mistake about the internet was probably an honest misunderstanding, as the same people were genuinely great in every other aspect.

The location was very good. It is in a rougher neighborhood, but we had no troubles. It was also close to the reunion area, plus numerous attractions. The beach is really super! It was our first visit to the Great Lakes, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would like to see the hotel after the renovation is complete. The breakfast area has been completed, and was very nice. No hot items, but the cereal/breads were plentiful and varied. If the rest of the hotel comes out like this area, it would probably get an upgraded report.

Room Tip: Ask not to be in the construction area.

This was our first stay in the area. We went to Michigan Adventures, Lake Michigan and Grand Haven. We picked this hotel because of location and price. It was with 15 miles of everything we wanted to do.
The area was a little depressed, many closed businesses in the surrounding area.
The hotel was/ is being renovated--- our room was finished and beautiul. We had a suit with a kitchenette, and seperate bed room.
The staff was great and very accomadating. The kids loved the, pool, free breakfest and use of the computer in the lobby. Thanks Lisa, Lisa B and Nicole!!!!!

I have read your energizing review. :-) I do appreciate your comments about your stay with us. We learn to be a better host through guest reviews.

The employees remember you and enjoyed interacting with your party. It helps staff morale and encourages them to want to do what they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I have talked with Lisa, Lisa B. and Nicole and told them they did a great job.

We hope you return to Muskegon and stay with us. Have a safe and fun summer.

We booked this hotel with a group of 3 families and one room smell like smoke so we switched rooms. We spent the first day at the beach (really fun)! The second day at Michigan Adventures (also fun)! So we didn't spend a lot of time here, since the neighborhood businesses had bullet proof windows and bars, we were a little freaked out. They had a security guard at night in the lobby. They do try. Our bed was awful, room 265 avoid this room. The pool was really small and so chlorinated that we could not stay more than a few minutes. The staff was really nice! The breakfast was great! (and free) Hungry Howie's delivered pizza to our room, and we even used the coupons in the lobby which made it cheap too! Maybe our room was not renovated yet, I hope if you stay there you can ask for a room with a better bed, cause that was really a bummer. Other than that, for the price it was great.

We were happy to serve you and your families. Thank you for your kind words about our staff and the continental breakfast. I apologize about your bed. We are in the process of replacing all mattresses with pillowtop mattreses however; renovation is a process. Thank you for your understanding. This area is really not as scarey as you may think. I can understand your statement because you were not familiar with the area. The economic downturn caused some businesses in the area to close. I believe that this area will improve one building and business at a time. We would never put any guest or staff at risk. As most hotels, we have cameras and security to ensure everyone's safety. The neighborhood behind the hotel is made up of older homes but most of them are well kept.

You are correct. Our location is advantageous for many summer and winter recreation activities. We would love to have you return to the Red Roof of Muskegon and again, thank you for allowing us to serve you.

We were there july 27th - 29th and the hotel was great. The renovation is almost done and the rooms were really nice. The beds were comfortable and everyone I asked slept great. There isn't much around the hotel, but it is right off a main road and stores and restaurants are just a couple of miles away. Everything we did was not very far from the hotel. The breakfast area was big and new and there was a variety of food. The staff accommodated us by letting us eat breakfast until 11:30!!. The kids had fun in the pool, even if it was small. The older kids hung out in the parking lot and they were able to throw around a football and the boys spent about 45 minutes exercising outside. We all enjoyed our stay and again all of the staff was friendly.

I would not stay here again. We had reserved a room with a King bed, but upon walking into our room, discovered they gave us 2 doubles. Our room's bathroom lights did not work, the phone did not work and their was a thick layer of dust over all the furniture. The front desk told us that due to the construction, they didn't have any more Kings available. When our friends checked in, they got the King they had requested. So we complained again. They moved us to room #2 (with a King bed). The room was located in the construction hallway- no other guests around us, but the hallway was filled with tools and construction dust. Room #2 had a horrible stench; perhaps the Febreeze air freshener left on the A/C unit was meant to cover the smell. The hall light did not work and when I pulled back the bed covers, I discovered a used tissue. After complaining, again, to the front desk, they offered to move us to a Jacuzzi suite. Room #3 seemed much cleaner, but I did find several bugs on the lampshades and jacuzzi tub. The young lady at the front desk was very nice and tried very hard to accommodate us, but I just can't bring myself to stay at another Red Roof Inn.

It is unfortunate that your stay had issues. Our maintenance team is normally very good at replacing lights etc. Guests are encouraged to contact front desk to inform them of room problems. I am not sure what you meant by stating the hall light didn't work. Perhaps you meant the entrance light. Typically the floor lamp is connected to the light switch next to the entrance door.
I have looked into this matter and apologize for the tissue in the bed. It may have been dropped by the laundry folder or housekeeping. However, I am puzzled by the report of insects. We have a service that regularly inspects and sprays for insects. I know we are able to take care of most issues however; sometimes they find a way into any hotel.
Thank you for your comments about the front desk personnel. I have shared your comments with them.
The hotel renovation will be competed by the end of July. Red Roof Inn is a good place to stay for familites and business travelers. Most guests have a pleasant stay, Again we apologize for any inconvenience.

Hotel is going thru some major renovations, however the room we stayed in was updated/new. Furnishings are all updated. Bathroom could use some more work/room. Construction crew that was there was very accomodating in assisting us carry coolers up the flight of stairs as there is no elevator. That little extra help went a long way.

No close by restaurant or stores, but it's easy to get to and hop back on the expressway,
