“I'll never be back”
Reviewed June 21, 2011

If you don't put out the fire at 11:00 PM and you have more then 3 people sitting aroung it you will be harassed by the rangers. Vary disappointing and embarrassing for my out of town guests.
Our group has been camping together all over the US for a lot of years and have never been treaded with so much disrespect from the rangers.
WE PULLED OUT EARLY...

“NEAR PERFECT CAMPING!”
Reviewed May 23, 2011

Our stay at Hoffmaster was near perfect! It is one of the best campgrounds we have ever stayed at. The cleanliness alone is worth the stay. The bathhouses are immaculate. The park attendants are friendly and helpful. The camp sites are shaded amongst tall pines. The sites are very level. The firepits are immovable so the campsite remains clear of debris. We had a family with children with us and they loved the playground and the nearby creek. The short hike to the lake reveals a secluded pristine dune and beach. The statepark itself was lovely. The nature center was awesome. A walkway up the slope of a dune was well-maintained and pretty incredible.

The only thing that would have made our stay perfect was if there were a grill grate to be used over the firepit. Definately, not a deal breaker though.

We highly recommend!

“Great for Family”
Reviewed July 2, 2010

We went to Hoffmaster campground in September, it wasn't very crowded. Nice wooded sites, yeah theres not foliage between campsites, but if you can set up tent or camper between you and the neighbors and its fine because trees are in behind the sites unless you have a pull through which is in the middle of the ring but still has 4-5 trees... I never felt my privacy was invaded. Its clean. Bathrooms are nice... they try to keep them clean all day. Someone mentioned soap running out...its CAMPING...bring your own... i like the private shower 'closets'. the hosts are really nice and sometimes have activities for kids. Playground is clean, locally set. Walk to beach can be a bear with kids, but worth it. The nature center is fun with wooden walking paths for most of it... very nice. We are going back this weekend...4th of july... i expect it will be buzy.. can't wait... :)

“We loved this Park!”
Reviewed June 26, 2010

In June,14 members of my family stayed 3 nights at Hoffmaster state park, we had 4 campsites that were backed by the woods, there are lots of trees in the campsite really giveing you that up north feeling. The bathrooms are really nice, they get messy but are closed several times in the day to be cleaned, there are private showers, which was so nice. they have a playground that my kids loved, we were in easy walking distance of it. it is a little walk to the beach, just remember to wear your shoes, there is a rocky spot along the path, but worth it, you can also drive into the state park area and go to that part of the beach also, it is a shorter walk. the camp ground is quiet at night because of the alcohol ban, which is fine with me, each site has a picinic table and fire pit, really nice for sitting around and relaxing in the evening. we really had a nice time here, and will come back next year

“Leave your motorcycle at home”
Reviewed August 3, 2009

This used to be my favorite campground up until this last month. If we had taken the truck I think everything would have been fine. Unfortunately we had 2 motorcycles (it was during Bike Time in Muskegon) and I believe we were targeted because of it. They said that the 3 of us were "being loud". We were quietly talking around the fire and had our radio in between us at a low level, it could not be heard from the picnic table, let alone the road!!! The 2 rangers were exceptionally rude for no reason!
And like another review said the showers have very low pressure and once the soap runs out they do not fill it.
We will be staying at another campground next year.
