“Good food and jovial atmosphere”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We were greeted as if we were locals. The menu is extensive. My tarte flambe'e and my partner's salad were of massive proportions, delicious and fresh. Even though there was a large group lunching our drinks arrived very quickly, as did our food. This place just oozes rustic charm: the flags, swords and suits of armour, antlers ... definitely Alsatian!

“Good solid alsatian food”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

We have eaten here quite a lot of times over the years, and the food has always been good. For lunch I prefer a tarte flambée and in the evening I normally choose a gratin or the jarret de porc. The food is good and the portions are big. They have good desserts as well but mostly we are so full that there is no room for dessert. Prices are fair and the service good and efficient.

“Go there for typical Alsace food preparations. Good food and atmosphere.”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

This is the meeting place of the locals.
It is located in a historic building and decorated with coats of arms and clones of ancient swords and armors.
We have been there many times both for lunch and dinner and were never disappointed. Nevertheless, it should be stressed that this is not the place where you eat sophisticated preparations.
Products are always of good quality and the cooking is fine.
As usual in the French countryside, plates are served generously. So, if you are not a big eater, better ask for half-portions or share.
Our recommendations :
- at lunchtime, choose among the various "Tartes Flambées" (flammekueche) a typical Alsatian dish. These are like very thin pizzas basically with onions, white cheese and ham. Many variations exist with more ingredients. If you are two and decide to have both flammekueche, you may ask to have them served sequentially. Thus you both share the first one and will receive a new, warm, one when you finish the first.
- at dinner, we always look at the Chef's day propositions but often eventually order the "Jarret de porc grillé". It's delicious.
Service is friendly and generally efficient.
During summer, this restaurant has a quite large terrasse in front of it. It is often crowded. In that case, the quality of service decreases because the extra servers are not always very professional.
You must choose between the pleasure of sitting outside and the proficiency of service.
