We stayed for a weekend (2 nights) in Au Lion in August 2012 in a "maisonette", an under-the-roof room/apartment for 2 adults and 2 kids. Ribeauville is a VERY charming little town in the lovely winelands of Alsace. Staff was quite friendly and room sufficiently spacious for 4 (kids had a little room on their own), but there were a number of drawbacks:
- we could never make the telephone work to get an outside line. On Sunday evening the restaurant is also closed and there was nobody to assist us
- the allegedly "free" wireless internet is rather complicated to set up, the signal is very weak and keeps dropping, and once set up the connection is valid for an hour and then the process needed to be re-started from scratch. As a result, it was practically hardly possible to use internet
- the windows of the room could not be tilted, so the choice was to close them (too hot in an August summer night), or to leave them open, resulting in noisy window-movements created by the wind during the night.

Overall a pleasant stay, but a few nuisances,so be prepared!

This was a very nice little hotel in a nice location (Ribeauville) on the route du vin. We booked via email as we wanted a family room (not common in Europe). The hotel is really pretty easy to find, just down the main drag in Ribeauville. It is closed on Monday, but so are many in the town. We ate at the restaurant one night and were quite pleased. Breakfast at the hotel was simple but good. The rooms themselves were smallish but clean.

As others mentioned, finding it was a minor challenge, and parking was a little further away than would be good for folks that can't manage the hills and cobblestones. For us, it was not an inconvenience. The staff spoke English (and French and German) quite well and were very friendly and helpful. We also ate at the hotel's restaurant, and our meal was very good. Our suite was huge, beds were comfortable and room was very clean. The town is quaint and we would have liked to have had more time to explore it.

The room was fine, we already knew that parking was at a minimum, the WIFI is useless but hey ho we where on holiday.

On the last of our three nights here we decided to eat in the hotels restaurant, “BIG MISTAKE” our first course was vegetable soup, it was thin and watery had no flavour and was a transparent Rose colour, we complained, the soup was removed and returned some ten minutes later same soup just reheated with the addition of cream.

We passed on the soup and awaited the main course, Grilled Trout with a Riesling sauce. On arrival the fish was no more than 20cm head to tail it had been over cooked or should I say over micro waved, it was accompanied by a thickly skinned sauce two sad quarters of a tomato and four very well cooked potatoes, we ate the potatoes and gave our disappointment to an over eager waitress, and left.

The Chef that was on duty that night would be far better of digging holes in the ground. He certainly can’t cook, if you stay here try any one of the many good value restaurants in Ribearville I’m sure you won’t be disappointed even the Kebab shop opposite the hotel is a better bet than eating here.

Just to finish this is the only time that either my wife or I can remember sending food back.

Simple hotel on nice location in Ribeauville. Not easy to find by car as other guests also experienced. Large room, but unfortunately no airconditioning whereas it was 38 degrees C.
Restaurant was closed on arrival day (monday), however hotel next door had nice menu.
Ribeauville nice little town just like Riquewehr near by and Colmar on 25 km. Breakfast at approx. 6 Euro extra just sufficiant.

Located in beautiful Ribeauville. Staff were so helpful and spoke English. They offer a shuttle service (fee) between the hotel and the train station, which is about a half hour's drive away. Breakfast included, consisting of croissants and bread, spreads, fruit, juice and coffee. I was traveling with my husband, 8 and 10 year old daughters and my mother-in-law. We had the duplex room, which worked out rather nicely for us. The lower part has a sleeper-sofa and a desk. Then you go up a wooden spiral staircase to the second level which had two single beds, a desk and a divan-like lounge couch. The bathroom was upstairs as well as a separate bedroom with a door, consisting of a double bed. The hotel is located very close to the church, so we could clearly hear the bells all night long. The street noise was a bit much with the open windows (no air conditioning), but that is my only complaint. We even had a surprise German oompah band on the terrace one evening and could hear them from our room.

My sister-in-law living in Luxembourg has stayed here before and suggested it as a weekend getaway during our visit. It is located in a charming medieval town and the hotel faces a lovely town square with a fountain and flowers. The rooms are clean and comfortable but nothing fancy. The continental breakfast (I think there is an extra charge) was excellent and consisted of baguettes, crossiants, homemade jams, orange juice and a basket of fruit (apples and kiwis). The proprietor/owner was very attentive and his command of the English language was excellent. Would highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Room #1 is extra lg and faces the square.
