“Excellent good value food in pleasant setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

Good food and wine at reasonable prices. Set in grounds of and part of Auberge Cheval Blanc (Michelin rosetted) Friendly atmosphere, professional relaxed service. It is a typical good quality bistro/stub which were once the highlight of trips to France but are fast disappearing.

“Best lunch on our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

Our group of six spent 12 days or so in the Black Forest, in Haut Rhine and in Bas Rhin. My wife and I are sorta over Michelin starred places but this winstub looked good because it was adjacent/related/attached to a starred esablishment. We had no reservations but it was neither full nor empty on an early September day. The menu was varied but not overly long; I don't think any of the six of us had the same thing (well, maybe the foie gras) and all of us found the food to be superb. I had the quenelles, which were feather light, floating in a rich, mildly spicy crayfish bisque.

Now, two things make food great: top quality ingredients and technique. Both were amply on display. In a province where good food is ubiquitous this place deserves a substantial detour. I grow misty-eyed just think about it.

Oh, I forgot - most reasonably priced. A day to remember!
