Charming, historic building located along the river in Andlau. Stayed for two nights in the Fleur de Lys room (very large with two single beds, updated full bath and two double windows with large sills overlooking the quite quiet street.) The bedroom was tastefully furnished and decorated, but still with the rustic ambiance. Great price (68 euros per night without breakfast). Beds and pillows were comfortable. Reception nice and they speak some English, if that is a factor in your decision. Free WiFi was offered on request (they gave me the code to use with my laptop). Would definitely stay here again. It’s a former mill with the antiques (replete with water wheel) located in the dining room-cum-living room area. The Zinck has been renovated to have an urban feel mixed with the rustic charm of old-world buildings. It is chock full of character. (This is not one of those hip, minimalist places, if that’s what you are seeking.) Andlau is a wonderful winegrowing village of about 1,800 people only 30 minutes by car from Strasbourg. There are a handful of restaurants, cute market on Wednesdays, intriguing architecture and friendly people. The wines here (whites dominate) are excellent, and there are several wineries open for tasting. There’s not as much tourist traffic here as other Alsatian wine villages, and I’m not sure why. It’s a three-hour drive from Paris to Dijon (or 90-minute train ride), then a short drive to the heart of Burgundy; I’m amazed more people who come to France to visit wineries don’t come to this village in Alsace. What a discovery!
