This restaurant hang out for years and the quality remained constant over time, good thing. Special mention to the grilled vegetables, cooked and prepared very well. The place from the outside looks like a simple house, but inside is wonderful one of the most characteristic in Vis.

Our server, Jure, was fabulous and our driver (can't remember her name right now, sorry) was a sweetheart & answered all our island questions. We didn't love pur appetizer.... A cold plate with olives, few slices of cheese, and sardines....and the salad was okay. The main was a fish cooked over a 2hr period. That is why we came and we were delighted with the having tried the dish, especially after reading about it online. The chef did up the fish right. The white wine was okay, but not our Fav in the last 3 weeks of travelling Croatia. I think what disappointed us was not being fore-warned that car service came at an additional cost. We read online that it was free, which it only is if you are a group of 4 or more. When we made the arrangements & reserved the restaurant we should have been told upfront that the service came with a charge. To be forth coming with guests, without putting them off, is the sign of a professional establishment with well earned stripes. I think this restaurant has fabulous potential, they hire great staff and their signature dish has a diversity in flavor..we just felt the appetizers underscheived and the notice at the door step re: a charge for the service was a little off putting.

Golub was by far our best meal in Croatia. We stopped in for lunch while driving around the island one day and are so pleased we did.

The family were very friendly and the sons all speak English. The shady terrace is in a perfect spot with gorgeous views and a welcome breeze.

The food - wow! I'm a pregnant vegetarian so unfortunately my choices are somewhat limited at the moment (wherever I go), but I still found plenty to choose from. The local hard cheese was delicious (sharp, salty and sweet like Parmesan) and came served with home cured olives, capers and what i think was pickled rosemary. For my main I had spaghetti with a flavourful homemade tomato sauce and a side of grilled veg which I wolfed down. How come my BBQ veg kebabs never taste this good?!

My husband had grilled lamb for his main also with a side of grilled veg. The portion size was huge but he said it was so delicious all that was left on his plate once he'd finiahed was some well chewed bones. Everything is very simply cooked, no faffy sauces and seasonings as the quality if the produce needs no enhancement.

My husband enjoyed a couple of glasses of the homemade wine and I made a good dent in their supply Of homemade herbal cordials. Very moreish! For pudding we fought over a piece of homemade carob cake and rozara which is like creme caramel.

All in all well worth the trip and very reasonably priced. I think the final bill was around 450 kuna which is roughly £45. I noticed on the back of the menu they have a sister restaurant in Komiza called Baba (in the foodie district next to Bako and the one starting with J), but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try it.

Konoba Golub is extraordinary. Period.

Situated in the middle of Vis Island, this is a family-run restaurant that is not to be missed.
The owner will even offer to pick you up in case you don't have a vehicle.

The views from the restaurant are fabulous as it overlooks the valley at the centre of Vis island - you would never know that you're in the middle on an island!

You need to call in advance and book especially if you're having Peka since it takes 2 hours to cook. And Peka you MUST have!

We started with grilled lamb and we have NEVER HAD GRILLED LAMB THAT TASTED THIS GOOD! (and I have lived in the Middle East and north India for a while, so I know a thing or two about grilled lamb)

And then the peka - peka is a Dalmatian baked dish with meat and vegetables made in a pot or a tray, the pot is put into the embers of a fireplace. The food is cooked under a 'cripnja', which is a Dalmatian term for the special bell shaped lid, which is put over the pot/tray, for cooking the Peka. One of the interesting things about Peka is that you can make with any kind of meat you like, veal, chicken, lamb, octopus etc.

We had the OCTOPUS PEKA and frankly I have never had anything quite like it !

2 of us had about a kilo of lamb and another kilo of octopus peka and amost finished it all !!

The wine, made by the family with grapes grown in the surrounding hillside, is QUALITY !

The home-made Grappas also looked amazing, too bad we couldnt try them with all the food we had :).

The service was faultless, the ambience perfect.
