After all the offers of seafood seafood and more seafood in Dalmatia, this lovely little restaurant in Vis town was such a pleasant relief! We had some of the best food of our holiday here. We passed it during the day when it was closed, and looking at the menu we were pleased to find that the restaurant had some vegetarian options, both in starters as in maincourse. Particularly the house speciality of fresh artichokes with favabeans and peas sounded great. Went back at night to try it, and were seated outside, a nice spot with many people walking the riva so plenty to see.
As starters we had the with basil and the gnocchi with gorgonzola sage and walnuts. We were slightly dissapointed, as the tomatosoup did not seem to be freshly made ( from concentrate?) and there was no basil in it. The gnocchi was ok, but a bit bland - could not taste any walnut for example. As mains we had the promising artichokes and the creamy risotto with rock shampire. Both were gorgous!! The artichokes were fresh and soft all the way through and cooked perfectly in a sauce of slightly spices favabeans and peas. The slight sweetness of the beans combined great with the hint of bitterness of the artichokes. portion size also great, plenty to fill up. The risotto was also well cooked and creative:made with white cheese it had a rich creaminess that contrasted great with the salty rock shampire, a yummy combination. enjoyed the homemade wine -which was low in price considering the taste, lovely.
Enjoyed it so much that we returned a few days later, to have a salad with the rock shampire again - and discovered that we love this ingredient.Salad well dressed, and accompanied by brushetta:nothing special there but well excecuted and nice. good light start for a more filling main:went for the pasticada, stew of baby beef leg with rosemay, prunes and brandy along with homemade gnocchi. When i wanted a risotto as a starter the waitress kindly advised that the two would be too much, and rightly so. the padticada was lovely, homecooked feel to is and traditional smells and tastes. Second main was a simple pasta milanese with grilled vegetables on the side: nothing special but nice.Deserts were really nice! A chocolate cake to die for, soft and chocolaty, and a large piece of baklava, moist and good.
Friendly service, nice family cooking with a creativity on the menu that is not common on Vis, nice terrace, good ingredients. Definitely recommended!!
