“VERY resonable prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

The platters were about $20 each, and it included all the meats you can think of, tostones, queso, and beans.. the only not so great thing was the very very very slow service, but it's probably a Leon thing.

“Some of the best quality food to be found in Leon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

After having eaten in most of Leon´s restaurants, I think Al Carbon has probably got the best quality food avaliable.

The attention to detail in the dishes served is clearly apparent, and the meat is tender and flavoursome.

It is not the chepest, but the service is very good and attentive, and so for a special occasion, Al Carbon is a great place to go for dinner.

“Great meal for a group of 10”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

Measured against the best restaurants you might find in the states or Europe, Al Carbon falls a bit short. But you are in Leon, Nicaragua, a place without the infrastructure of some of these other places. Overall, Al Carbon delivered a wonderful experience. Our group of 10 wandered in about 7 pm on a Thursday night w/no reservations and they handled it very well. Were there some modest "dark" periods when our waiter was a bit invisible? Sure, but he managed to get our order taken rather quickly and the meal was delivered timely. And everyone enjoyed their food, the atmosphere and the assorted beverages and such that were also ordered. Fair prices, very good food, lovely atmosphere. Thanks!!

“Struggle to cope on busy nights”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

We ate at Al Carbon last night for a Valentine's meal; food and setting were nice enough but staff struggled on what was clearly a busy night for them.
Rather than the normal extensive menu, a limited set menu was offered - starter, choice of 3 mains and dessert + a glass of fizz for C$450 - expensive for Nica but probably similar price to other local top-end options for a Valentine's meal. The food was good and portions large, including a tasty bruschetta starter, although at times not up to the standard expected - the steak was over cooked and 1 glass of fizz had been poured earlier and so had lost it's fizz.
Staff were friendly, but as noted in other reviews service was sloppy and unprofessional. For example the welcome glass of fizz arrived after we had eaten the starter, and the cutlery for the main course arrived 5 minutes after the food. Most annoying was the refusal of staff to bring a drinks menu, despite asking 3 times (claiming that all were being used by other diners, although we saw none on other tables - we suspect this was an attempt to 'up' the prices of drinks on a special occasion).
The atmosphere was good - from the number of diners, the live music and ther lovely colonial setting, but overall the dining experience here would be better on a less busy night.
