Description: CocinArte, the city's original vegetarian restaurant,is located in the oldest building of Leon (1620) a few blocks from Central park. The restaurant has a lovely green patio and soft world music is played which makes the restaurant a nice little escape from the buzzing streets of Leon. CocinArte specializes in international vegetarian dishes like falafel, pasta pesto, noodles with a mouthwatering peanut sauce or a flavorful Indian curry or chana masala. But you can also choose for a traditional Nicaraguan dish like Indio Viejo. The House special is "The CocinArte",a sizzling hot plate with sauteed veggie fajitas and vegetables. The menu offers smaller dishes like soups, quesadillas, tacos and salads For the carnivores there is a small selection of chicken dishes. Natural juices & milk shakes (without sugar!) are freshly made at the bar and a fine, strong organic coffee is served. All the food is made to order and ingredients are freshly cut. Packaging and take away is available. Open 12am -10pm, closed on Tuesdays.

We looked for CosinArte when we first got to León and didn't find it but our last night there we looked them up again and are so happy we found them! The veggie curry was my favorite and the service was fun and personal for a change. We felt right at home and had a relaxed and delicious dinner. Thanks again CocinArte:)

The menu at CocinArte has an array of vegetarian options and I was completely overwhelmed with excitement since I almost never eat vegetarian food in Nicaragua. I eventually settled on Indian chana masala and it was amazing. The staff was very attentive and the management was extremely friendly. I will definitely dine here again on my next visit to Leon.

My husband is vegetarian and we try to find local vegetarian fare for him whenever we travel. CocinArte is truly a vegetarian mecca! With items ranging from Indian chana masala to Chinese chopsuey to Italian Pesto Pasta to traditional Nicaraguan fare at affordable prices, a vegetarian will never have to go hungry in Leon again :) ! The owners are super friendly and tried to explain the menu to us and recommended their special fajita. My husband finally got to try the vegetarian version of Indio Vijeo (amazing) and I had the fajita with a sizzling platter of vegetables and soy in a yummy gravy. Each of the dishes came with corn tortillas, beans and rice. The plates are HUGE and can be easily shared. The food is prepared fresh and so the wait time is about 25-30 minutes but that is quite typical of all restaurants in Nicaragua. I savored every bite and I am non-vegetarian! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

We try to eat vegetarian meals whenever we can, so we were please to visit Cocinarte, with many vegetarian offerings. We noted that a few chicken dishes were available as well. We enjoyed a lunch of vegetable soup, lentil soup and spinach quesadillas. The soups were probably made to order, as we waited quite a long time for them, and they were served steaming hot. All of the food was tasty. The restaurant walls are adorned with artwork and the small courtyard garden is appealing to the eye. Service was friendly but a bit slow. We recommend this restaurant to vegetarians and vegans visiting Leon.

CocinArte offers a good range of international food and well-cooked Nica staples, also cold beers and a range of cocktails. We've visited 4-5 times and have never been disappointed. Location isn't too far from the centre and is convenient for the Ortiz-Guardián Art Gallery. Cool seating round the small courtyard garden (also ceiling fans here and inside) within a classic Leon-style building.
