This hostel does NOT care about any of their guests. Party is top priority here. You are one in a million guests in and out (who knows why), so they don't care how your stay was.

I emailed ahead to confirm reservations for a private room, they replied and said no problem. When we arrived, they did not have a room for us and we had to stay in the dorms, which were very dark. The internet takes about 10 min to load any page at all, I couldn't even check email. They tried to argue about giving us the deal for dorms+volcano boarding, but eventually gave it to me when I was adamant that they did not offer it when we checked in (as we were arguing about the reservation).

We checked out and found a new hotel (there are TONS nearby, do not feel limited to what is available online, every 5th building is a hotel or hostel in Leon), left our stuff in storage at Bigfoot to go volcano boarding (super dangerous, be careful, they do not warn you; instead they try to make you break speed records. multiple people have broken their collarbones)

After we got back to get our stuff, they told us a private room was available, we took it for convenience sake... their cat peed on our bed and they refused to refund our money, saying it was our fault. the mattress was not protected and was soaked with cat pee.

The owner is ridiculous and does not care about her customers happiness at all. She is making tons of money and doesn't need to care about one bad experience, clearly. Do not stay here. There are hundreds of other better places to stay, and tons of places to go volcano boarding.

my shower flooded and did not drain, as well as a toilet did not flush. they did not seem to care about upkeep at all.

Room Tip: do not stay here. tons of better places around. the tours they offer are offered in tons of location...

Stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed the laid back vibe. It was great to chill out and play pool and socialise with other travelers. There is a nice little swimming pool with a gravel garden around it which has baby tortoise in! Very cute!
The rooms are very cool with lotsnof different paintings and artistic designs on. Clean and comfortable and has kitchen but frying pans are not very good and need new ones lol but that is just a personal suggestion for those who like to cook for themself. Also would say you can get a cheaper double room somewhere else for less than $15 but it was still fun and great location and would recommend!

They offer spacious, clean, and interesting rooms. Lots of cool graffiti everywhere. Restaurant attached to the hostel is not too expensive and offers quality food. Very helpful signs with information on how to travel around Nicaragua and beyond.

Turtle hatching project on site means little turtles walking around in the common area, really cool.

kitchen was small but well equip.

Offer lots of organized tours from the hostel. very social hostel.

We spent 3 nights at Bigfoot. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and helpful. The lobby and courtyard area is chill. The pool area is home to a few turtles that wander around. The room itself was simple. My only complaint about it was that the sheets stunk like mildew. We had to use our own sheets. Also, you can't get wifi anywhere except the lobby and the cafe (not even in the courtyard). Smart setup on their part as many people buy beers and food while online. But not convenient at all. We weren't crazy about the food in the cafe. It was super bland. But the C$30 mojitos were good.

The plastic on the mattress is annoying but probably stops pee stains and bedbugs. Some of the staff is curt and disinterested while the barkeep makes mojitos all night without a complaint in his face. It seems like a party place but they enforce the quiet time and I got a very good sleep here. The bathrooms are clean but the doors don't lock properly, so prepare for someone to walk in on you in the toilet or shower. The restaurant next door is okay, but not great -- they seem to be more interested in having recycled paper menus than having a good menu or offering some variety. What makes this place special is that the atmosphere makes it incredibly easy to meet others and to enjoy your time in Leon. The owners care about the place and it is a very good hotel overall.

If you go to Leon and don't slide your butt down Cerro Negro, you've missed out. Bigfoot has a good operation running. It's fun, safe, and adventurous.

Where else can you go volcano boarding, learn to surf and human bowl in the same day? Bigfoot staff is some of the most friendly knowledgeable hostel staff in the whole world as far as I'm concerned. You can't stay just one night. There's so much to do while in Leon, and the Staff at Bigfoot will make sure you're having a great time day and night...!
