The Pictured Rocks area is breathtaking with many miles of scenic shoreline. The boat takes you right alongside and into the rock structures. There are waterfalls that can only be seen from the boat and the crew does an excellent job providing an interesting and informative narrative. If you want to get on the upper deck plan to arrive early.

We really enjoyed our trip to the pictured rocks. The boat was really comfortable with seating inside and on top. The narration was good and easy to hear. The length of the trip, around 3 hours, was about right. I would suggest sitting near the rear and then when allowed get up and stand at the rail on the right side. This is the best place for viewing and picture taking.

Sitting uptop or on the right side of the boat is best if you want to take pictures. We had a perfect day. 65 degrees and sunny. On the return trip people sitting on the left side can take pictures, but the boat is moving slightly faster. They have complementary pet crates in a climate control area, so you don't leave your pet in a hot car. It worked great, but you should bring a lock or buy one from the gift shop if it is a busy day. There is no one watching the animals. I took my dog's favorite blanket and left him a dish of water (I brought the dish/water). He was the only dog since it was "off season". I would leave him again, but next time take my lock. The boat crew are very friendly and made the trip more enjoyable. Drinks/snacks are allowed. The crew does sell canned pop only.

I purchased tickets online ahead of time and showed up a half hour before the cruise and we were one of the last groups in line to get on the boat. I did not take into account how early the older folks can, and will, line up for a boat cruise. If you want a seat on top, be sure to get there very early. The views and the windows on the bottom row of the boat aren't good enough for pictures. You can stand in the back of the boat for pictures, but we found a handful of people hogging the railing. Eventually we staked out the railing on the port side of the boat to get pictures on the way back. I found the narration to be difficult to understand and didn't think it added much value to the trip. The beauty of the Pictured Rocks must be seen from the water and Pictured Rocks Cruises is the big-guy in town. My hope is that the NPS is getting a cut of the $36 ticket to help protect and maintain the beauty.

3 hour tour gives you plenty of time to see these amazing rocks along the lakeshore of Lake Superior. We took the 4p.m. tour, but there are several other options during the day and evening. The boats are covered so you can be inside or outside on the upper deck, but views are good most everywhere and you can move around if desired throughout the tour. This is a very memorable sightseeing trip at a reasonable cost.
