“laid back family friendly”

Friendly owner (although had to wait a bit as he was on the phone when I was checking in)

Nice 2 bedroom suite, great for the kids, tv mounted from ceiling a bit outdated, would be nice to wall mount a flatscreen.

Family friendly atmosphere - has a game room with pool table, games, sauna, kitchenette, basketball hoop and playground outside. Hotel in residential neighborhood so a nice place to take a walk after dinner. Quiet area. Our room was a bit hard to find, could use more clear signage.

Overall a fantastic value for the price, don't forget to get the AAA discount!

The Terrace Motel is tucked away in a residential area a few blocks from downtown Munising. The motel backs up on a wooded hillside. Prices are very reasonable.
With only 18 units in three buildings you never feel like you're just another faceless customer. Larry, the owner/proprietor is friendly and helpful and is available if you need something but he pretty much leaves the guests alone. There is a fourh building which has a pool table, sauna, full kitchen for communal use by the guests, ice machine, plus a nearby outdoor grill. We were in room eleven which is on an end and except for some parking lot noise it was nice and quiet. There is a large room in front with TV, sofabed and tables, and another room in the rear with two queen beds, plus a large bathroom. For a small motel we never felt cramped. The only negative, there is NO Air Conditioning. Luckly, the day we were there the weather was cool, but if you don't like the heat this might that be the place for you in mid-summer, depending on if the wind is coming off the Lake or from the south. Except for the lack of A/C the proptery would have earned an excellent rating, which I rarely give.

Room Tip: Call to make a reservation, Larry is very accomodating, just tell him what you're looking for.

Stayed here mainly because the price was lower than others in the area and the photos looked decent. Motel is off the beaten path, not right off the highway as it states. Our room was inside of a hallway where doors adjoined to other areas and it was dark and dirty inside the hallways and smelled of cigarette smoke.
The room was old (1950ish style) and had not been updated, which I don't terrible mind. It had a cuteness to it on the outside but the inside was a bit sad and it could use an update.
The mattress was hard, tilted, old and awful, and I would never stay here again because of that alone!
If you need a cheap place to lay your head and rest ok, but beware you are not going to get a full restful stay here.

MunisingTerrace, Owner at Terrace Motel, responded to this review, August 2, 2011
I wish this guest's experience of the Terrace would have been as most all guest experiences have been. I respect every guest's right to express their opinion, and I realize that no place, including the Terrace, is the place for everyone. Still, I am confused about a couple of things in the review.

The Terrace website says the Terrace is three blocks off M-28. It is not said in any print or online ad for the Terrace that the Terrace is right off the highway.

There are exterior walkways at the Terrace, but there is neither a hallway nor are there hallways at the Terrace. All rooms but two are entered directly from the outside, and the two which aren't are entered via a little alcove 5 feet deep by 4 feet wide. There are no other areas which can be accessed by this alcove.

I noted that there is a 10 month gap between the posting of the review and the guests's stay. I am wondering if this might have led to some confusion between the Terrace and some other place.

We booked this hotel solely from reading reviews on trip advisor. We were in Munising durning a heat wave and we did not know that this hotel had no air conditioning. We were traveling with our 2 small children and we have to have air conditioning. We told Larry this and he said he understood and he even made calls to try and find us a hotel with air. He even called us later that evening to make sure we found a place. Larry has some of the best customer service that I have experienced in a long time.

This Motel is quaint and quiet!! The owner was one of the nicest men and very willing to tell you the best places to go and where to eat. The Motel is set back in a neighborhood, making it very peaceful, but very close to anything you may want to see or do. The room was very clean and was more than I had expected for the price! This was one of the best hotel/motel experiences I have ever had and we will definitely be staying here again!!!

The Terrace Motel is a great value! The room is clean, the motel is quiet, there is a full kitchen guests can use, a game room, a fire pit and chairs to lounge around in. In addition, the host, Larry, is exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. When he didn't have the answer to a question, he called the person who had the answer. He is concerned that your vacation is relaxing and will do everything he can to make sure your stay is pleasant. In addition, the motel is walking distance from town, but removed from the noise of traffic. We will stay here again!

Room Tip: Just tell Larry what you want, and he'll do his best to accommodate.

The Terrace Motel is a GREAT value; we were very pleased with our stay. For around $50 per night, our expectations were met/exceeded. Yes, the place is older--more of a mom & pop kind of place with a decor we labeled "Northwoods meets the 60's" but it was clean, quiet, in a great location and the owner Larry is truly accommodating.

He offers coffee (not in the rooms, but two steps away in the tiny little lobby,) a communal kitchen which we used to keep costs down (full refrig to store your food in, microwave, stove, plates, pots/pans, etc.), wi-fi, charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal), sauna...and gave great advice on where to go hiking! He has probably had to say the same stuff a million times, but I felt like he still really cared that we had a great time.

We really enjoyed Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Take the time to drive to all the different places and hike the few miles in to all the different waterfalls; some really are beautiful. The Pictured Rocks cruise was nice, but it ended up being the least favorite of everything, and that's what we had come to the area for! Go at sunset; the colors will be much, much better.

I highly recommend Terrace Motel if you need a clean, budget place to stay. It's a great location!
