My husband and I stay here at least once or twice a season for snowmobiling. Rooms are simple, a bit outdated, but very clean and the family is SUPER nice. It is secluded in the Hiawatha Nat'l Forest, quiet. We don't need fancy rooms when coming to the UP and this place has the amenities we need. A small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The Buckhorn is just down the road with a bar and restaurant. We also enjoying staying here instead of hotels in Munising/Wetmore because we can get to the main trails quickly. Plus, we are familiar with the back trails, so we can mess around in the woods with the deep stuff. However, the 2012 winter season was not so good to us this year.
We will always come back each season and stay here.

Me and my wife travel there every fall around Labor Day. Last couple of years we’ve been having difficulties booking our trip and I can understand why…

LOCATION:
The motel is located a 10 minute drive from downtown Munising in the Hiawatha national Forest. It is secluded and relaxing.
It overlooks Hovey Lake, which is nice to look at but don’t make a mistake of trying to navigate it- really shallow throughout and you will waste time trying to get off the bottom and get no time for fishing.

I even get a cell signal, which is rare in that area.

ROOMS:
Rooms are simple but very comfortable, well maintained and cleaned every day. There is plenty of space, a fridge, a sink, a microwave and a coffee maker. Free WiFi connection is available also. No stove but there is a charcoal grill.

STAFF:
They are the nicest family and are very accommodating.

FOOD Options:
Food is always important…
There is no restaurant in Timber Ridge Lodge but you have other options:
Go next door to the Buckhorn Motel. They have a great restaurant and bar and the sun sets over the lake, which is beautiful. Nice staff, great food and always a good experience.

If you feel up to it, I suggest visiting the Vanlandschoot & Sons in town to get the freshest fish (caught every morning) and enjoying home cooked dinner from the grill. You can’t get better whitefish or lake trout anywhere.

Also the Falling Rock Cafe in town is a nice option for a snack to start the day - good breakfast sandwiches and of course cofee.

The Main Street Pizza, the Navigator are also good.

SOME THINGS TO DO – (besides the obvious fall colors and boat tours)
• There is a bike trail that crosses the main road (3-4 miles away).
• Be sure to do the waterfall hikes, Miners Castle, Miners Beach, and too many other spots to mention.
• Kayaking the Au Train River is nice and relaxing.
• Go to Northern Waters Adventures to take a guided kayaking tour in the big lake – really cool.
• Look at the night sky – not much light pollution the clearest I've ever seen.

I hate giving away my secret vacation spot but it isn't so secret anymore judging by the amount of bookings in the last 3 years. Have fun!

Room Tip: All pretty much the same.

We came to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan looking for the opportunity to photograph fall color. We chose to stay at the Timber Ridge Motel and Lodge because of its location in the Hiawatha National Forest and its proximity to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We found Timber Ridge to be a very secluded, peaceful spot and a great value.
Our room was actually more like a suite. The first room had a sofa and TV, along with a kitchen table and microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker and sink. The second room, the bedroom, had a bath off to the side and had access to a private balcony that overlooked Hovey Lake.
We used Timber Ridge as our home base for a week of exploring and photographing the U.P. The location offered wonderful opportunities for photographing right out the door at Hovey Lake and the drive along Buckhorn Rd toward Munising offered views of spectacular fall color.
Timber Ridge is not fancy, but it is very clean, comfortable and quiet. We were able to make breakfast in our room each morning before heading out to explore and photograph this beautiful and unique area. Each evening, after a full day, we returned to enjoy a restful sleep.
We would definitely stay here again.
