A must-see Silk Road sight, well worth the long journey to get here. It's obviously centrally located and a delight to see up close.

One of the most interesting walled cities iIve ever been too. The history of this city is everywhere. I recommend a walk at dawn to get the city to yourself, with the occasional person sweeping the streets. The light on the buildings is beautiful then. The silk road and Khiva is definitely a trip people should try to do once in their life.

A stunning ancient city of the Silk Road.
Easy to explore, beautiful handicrafts and remarkable mosques.

The old city of Khiva is still in its orignial walls and no car can circulate in the small streets. There is a definite impression of living back in the past, discovering the various types of buildings, religious or secular. The stories told by the guides put life back in those old houses - this was particularly felt in the harem of the Tach-Khaouli Palace: a life apart from the rest of the court, but in which elegance!

When the merchants try to sell you stuff, BARGAIN! When they give their first price, cut it in half and stay firm. The bargaining process is also a good way to decide if you really want or need whatever they are selling
