wPictures on the site and on tripadvisor are probably 10 years old. The hotel is way past it’s duedate. It’s as we call it a fixerupper!!! Rooms are clean but our jacuzzi for which we payed an upgrade didn’t work, the WiFi was poor, all the furniture has seen better days. Pooltowels old and smudgy. Breakfast is fine. People working here are as everywhere in Sri Lanka superfriendly! To the best the hotel is average. You could get a lot better value for money. Average roomprice above $135,- a night you don’t get a bargin and your entitled to expect more. Also price in the bar and restaurant are adder with tax and servicecosts which are not communicated with you in advance.

We (wife and I) had a fantastic three night stay at the end of July.

Initially booked one of the 6 standard double rooms (need a bit of upgrading) but upgraded to a junior suite overlooking the lagoon and with it's own Jacuzzi bath - really fantastic.

The hotel and grounds are really nice and the staff exceptionally helpful (Anne on the front desk was superb).

Wi-fi was excellent

Room tip: Go for a junior suite with lagoon view

We stayed here for three nights at the end of a busy two weeks in beautiful Sri Lanka. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed in by far but we felt that it was definately worth it. We stayed in a Junior Suite with a stunning jacuzzi surrounded on two sides by windows giving a panoramic view of the lagoona and tree tops. The room was really above standard and worth the extra expense. We didnt eat at the hotel so cant comment on food but location wise there were tons of tourist amenities within a stones throw and very affordable tuktuks for pick up outside to take you into trincomalee or nilaveli. The hotel environment, with a big arching pool, was very conducive to just lounging though we took many enjoyable trips to town, fredricks fort, pidgeon islnd etc. The only problem was the beach where we discovered all the local hotels had designated areas and we didnt have any specific chairs or loungers (though had we got the boat service maybe we would have found a better location to sit.)
The hotel kindly let us do late check out at 3pm ending on a high.
Overall would recommend, great end to the trip.

I came to spa "azmaara" that is located in the hotel. I took the swedish treatment and it was amazing. I highly recommend you if your looking for an outstanding treatment. Also, I used the hotel pool and restaurant. The staff is very kind, the service is great and the facilities are in a high level. Highly recommended!!

A wonderful experience at Amaranthe Bay Resort.

The grounds are beautiful! Very peaceful with great views of local life around the fishing village on the other side of the estuary. Beautiful, large pool with just the right mix of shade and sunlight areas to suit everyone’s taste in sunbathing and swimming.

The bar had an excellent selection of alcoholic drinks and made for a fun spot to socialize.

A special thanks to the manager Mr. Sri for being a wonderful, experienced host- handling all his guests needs with class and efficiency. The bar man was also nice to chat with and was extremely professional.

The beach and lots of restaurant choices are in a short walking distance from the hotel.

I would recommend this resort to anyone considering a stay in Uppuveli- it’s by far the best place to stay in the area. We would come back!
