We spent a glorious few days here in August 2004, watching the local fishermen hauling their nets up the beautiful beach each morning, swimming in the sea and the pool, enjoying the splendid buffet cuisine and taking in some of the area's sights - the harbour, the fort and the temple on the headland above. Also enjoyed a little shopping in Trinco town, and the whole area is fantastic birdwatching territory. But now I hear from my local friend that the tsunami left only the basic shell of the structure in place, with total loss of life of staff and guests - just as for the Nivaweli down the road - an unbelievable tragedy.
